2014 Miss DC competition, an official preliminary to the Miss America pageant, is in search of contestants. Contestants must be born after December 31, 1989 and must be at least 17 years of age. Talent counts for 35% of the final score, with private interview counting for another 25%. Evening wear (20%), swimsuit (15%) and on-stage question (5%) account for the remaining 40%. The competition will take place on Sunday, June 15, 2014 at Arena Stage in SW Washington, DC. This means that, for eligibility by residence or employment, contestants must be living and/or working in DC as of December 15, 2013 (six months prior to our competition) and be able to prove this. Those claiming eligibility based on educational status must be currently enrolled as a full-time student in DC and have completed at least one semester as a full-time student within the last year. To get on our mailing list for future updates, please complete and submit the Prospective Contestant Information Form on our website: http://missdc.org/become-a-contestant/contestant-form/ We will have an information session on January 25, 2014 at the Normandy Hotel in Dupont Circle, 2118 Wyoming Ave., N.W., just off Connecticut. It is about a 10-minute walk from the Dupont Circle Metro station (directly north on Connecticut). The 42, 43 and L2 buses stop just one block away at Connecticut and California. To reserve a spot for this session, please RSVP in advance to [email protected]. Auditions will take place on Saturday, February 22, 2014. Four-minute interviews and 90-second talent auditions will begin at approximately 10:00 a.m. and conclude at about 4:00 p.m., with time slots assigned in advance. Please note that the Preliminary Fact Sheet 2014 (http://missdc.org/become-a-contestant/) is to be completed and emailed to me by no later than February 15, 2014 at [email protected]. The Eligibility Checklist and all supporting eligibility documentation are to be brought to the auditions on February 22 (with copies that we can keep). Finalists selected based on the auditions must be available for the contestant orientation on Saturday and Sunday, March 22-23, 2014 and for rehearsals the week leading up to the pageant. We would be very grateful if you could make any likely contestants aware of these details. We would love to have them audition for our 2014 competition! There is no entry fee. The winner will receive an academic scholarship and will represent DC at the Miss America competition in September 2014 in Atlantic City, N.J. Thanks for your help!
