I stir awake in the early morning in the crux between international women’s day and daylight savings thinking about identity.

I am a person who likes sleep and longer days. I am a femme. I am a person radicalized by the feminist movement lead by mothers, daughters, drag queens, and qu**rs for as long as it has existed.

I think about how five years ago, give or take, I was sitting in a meeting with some bankers telling the story for the vision of Our Time, and remembering the call ended with the bankers proclaiming “girl power!”, and feeling the collar of my shirt constrict. I remember thinking, what’s that feeling? I love lipstick, believe in glitter, and yet left wondering why my insides felt constricted when my strengths and vision were being seen only as “girl power”.

I started to feel conflicted about my gender identity and more began to unravel. Girl is infantile, was it just that? Women began to hit a different note, and while I looked around and saw so many of my mentors and role models and friends hold that title, I started feeling estranged. While still wearing lipstick? And I remember the first time I saw adrienne marree brown hold both, she/they. And then Kal from Rubblebucket. And then I started talking to people I love. And thinking these thoughts out loud- could I have been nurtured, raised and radicalized within femininity and still want more?

Gender fluidity started feeling more comfortable then the solo ‘she’. They, we, me today, who tomorrow…

I love being in a crux it seems. A grey area. A double meaning, and oh, I’ve changed my mind. I love what nonbinary has to offer our future, and I’m grateful for the ancestral femmes of the past.

This platform is contorting, but it’s also the outlet I saw queerness and gender fluidity being lived out in ways I could recognize. I’m grateful for women’s history, and I’m grateful we can find new ways to stretch and mold our own identities. -Xo a they/she for now

Such a beautiful way to close out Black History Month, visiting the masterful collaboration at the renowned ✨ this is your last night to catch the poetic 8 course tasting menu, Africa in the Americas, before it closes!

I couldn’t be more proud of, and blown away by, my friend’s pure talent. The way Cat is able to weave her story, her families history and her love for her culinary craft is such a gift, and feels so effortless on the plate (although I know from being behind the scenes in the test kitchen, she is poring everything into the menus she cultivates). This food offering has been so greatly appreciated by the Baltimore community, it was a joy to see Cat take laps around the dining room as folks sung her praises.

This act of cooking is an act of cultural preservation, story telling, comfort, and love.

Our world, and this country, are so fortunate to have Black History as a foundational part of its story.

Facilitated so many gatherings for festive celebrations this week! Huge thank you to for bringing the Fry Everything Party back for a third year! It’s always such a joy to open the kitchen up to facilitate everyone’s wildest fry dreams! My two favorites from this year was a friend Nutella stuffed date and on the savory side a fried cornichon aka lil’ pickle!! Oh! What a delight! Another successful “How to Start a Food Truck Business” class! Thanks to for joining! Whether you’re starting a brand new business or expanding on a business you’ve been running for 5+ years, this class sheds light on everything you need to know about starting a food truck in Maryland. SBA 036 Owings Mills!

I’m really blown away by the positive feedback each round of students gives! I think what it comes down to is telling the truth. I think some classes under the catergory of “Hospitality” are still teaching in the past. I really appreciate inviting each student to imagine the future of the food industry, and really digging into what a sustainable food business could look like- one that takes care of you, your community, and our planet.

I am so excited to share this upcoming event I’m organizing 💞

Sunday December 15th at 2pm

Engage in an alternative to holiday shopping this year by participating in a hyper local barter faire. Guests will bring homemade items to exchange with others.

This is an experimental event to encourage imagining a Baltimore ecosystem beyond money exchange. More details will be shared with participants ahead of the event.

Cozy Sunday Pop-up and The Bloom Collective Pop-up will also be going on for you to enjoy before or after this event!

Accessibility note:

This event will take place in the Backyard of Our Time Kitchen. Please bring warm clothes as this event will be outside. The backyard is ADA accessible and we have one ADA parking spot at our building (117 W. 24th St. Baltimore, MD).
