Why Skipping a Wedding Planner Doesn’t Have to Mean Stress and Mistakes

Let’s clear something up right away: deciding not to hire a wedding planner doesn’t mean you’re doomed to stress, confusion, or a day full of mistakes. You absolutely can plan your own wedding successfully — as long as you approach it with clarity, strategy, and the right support system.

Here’s the truth: just because you don’t have a planner doesn’t mean you should plan alone. There’s a wealth of knowledge out there from professionals who’ve done what you’re trying to do once… hundreds of times over. Pages like this one exist so you don’t have to reinvent the wheel. We’re here to share tips, insight, and hard-earned lessons that save you from costly (and stressful) missteps.

The Gift of Time

The biggest gift you can give yourself as a DIY bride? Time.

Planning a wedding isn’t rocket science — but if you’ve never done it before, it’s going to take you longer to figure certain things out. Think of it like baking blueberry scones. Could you follow a recipe and make them delicious? Absolutely. But someone who’s been baking scones for ten years? They’ll not only make them faster, but they’ll also know the little tricks that make them foolproof every time.

The same applies to wedding planning. You can figure things out — it just means giving yourself enough breathing room for the learning curve.

Set a Timeline That Works for You

This is your wedding, so you get to decide the timeline. Want to plan in 10 months? Totally possible. Prefer 24 months? That’s your call. What matters is making sure you’re realistic.

If it’s your first time planning a wedding, give yourself a cushion. Doing something brand new can be fun and exciting. Doing something brand new on a tight deadline? That’s when it gets stressful.

Don’t Underestimate the Process

Without a planner, the biggest mistake brides make is underestimating how much time and effort it actually takes to bring their dream wedding to life. From vendor research to budgeting to the tiny details you don’t even know you don’t know yet — it all adds up.

The good news? With the right mindset, resources, and a little guidance from people who’ve walked this road before you, you can plan your wedding with confidence — and actually enjoy the process.

✨ Planning your own wedding doesn’t have to feel overwhelming. Stick around here for tips, tools, and encouragement to help you plan smart, stress less, and create a wedding that truly feels like you.

3 essential steps to building your wedding budget from scratch👇🏾

1. Figure Out Your “Realistic” Total Budget

Alright, first things first—take a deep breath and get real about how much money you ACTUALLY have to spend. Yes…including that secret coin jar under your bed.

This number? This is your magic “anchor” that will keep you from accidentally spending your rent money on centerpieces.

2. Decide What Really Matters

Ask yourself: what makes your heart sing about this wedding? Is it the food, the dress, the flowers, or the epic dance floor?
Whatever tops your list—give it a bigger slice of your budget pie. And for the things that are “meh”? You can DIY, borrow, or scale back.

3. Break It Down & Track Every Penny

Now comes the nerdy-but-necessary part: divide your money into categories—venue, catering, flowers, attire, photography, and the rest. Then actually track what you spend. Yes, even that $3 bag of candy for favors.

💡 Pro tip: Shockingly, so many couples go into wedding planning without a budget at all—and that’s the fastest way to feel overwhelmed, stressed, and overspend on things that don’t really matter. Setting a budget first isn’t just a number—it’s your map for every decision you make, your guide to staying in control, and the key to planning a wedding you actually love without regrets.

💍 What will a wedding really cost in 2025?

The average is climbing to $36,000—and more than half of couples go over budget.

Here’s what’s driving prices up, how location changes everything, and why more couples are DIY’ing, hiring day-of coordinators, and hosting smaller, more personal celebrations.

Which would you do to save money? 👇🏾

💍 Think your wedding will cost less than $30K? You might want to check the latest numbers—because 2025 weddings are set to hit record highs.

If you’ve started wedding planning, you already know—there’s a LOT of noise out there about what things “should” cost. I’ve been in the wedding industry for over 15 years, and I’ve seen everything from sweet backyard ceremonies under $10K to luxury ballroom celebrations that could buy you a small house.

Here’s what the numbers are telling us for 2025:

📊 In 2024, the average wedding cost $31,281

📊 For 2025, that’s expected to jump to $36,000

💡 Millennials? They’re averaging $51,130—spending more on guest experience, entertainment, and photography

🚨 More than half of couples go over budget (last-minute add-ons, underestimating vendor costs, and guest list changes are the biggest culprits)

💹 Prices have risen 30% since 2019 for the same type of wedding, largely due to inflation and post-pandemic supply challenges

Location matters, too:
📍 Rhode Island, New Jersey, New York → $50K+

📍 Alaska, Nevada, Utah → $20K or less

🏙️ NYC/SF → $40K–$60K is common

🏡 Small towns in the Midwest or South → closer to $20K

Why does this matter?
Knowing the averages can help you:
✅ Set a realistic budget from the start
✅ Avoid sticker shock when vendor quotes roll in
✅ Focus on what matters most to you
✅ Plan for the unexpected

The shift I’m seeing in 2025:
Couples are taking control of their budgets and celebrating on their own terms by:
✨ DIY’ing the details that matter most

✨ Choosing day-of coordinators instead of full-service planners

✨ Hosting smaller, more intimate celebrations that feel personal and meaningful

Your wedding doesn’t have to follow a one-size-fits-all template—or come with a price tag that keeps you stressed long after the day is over. You can have a celebration you love, one that reflects your priorities, without breaking the bank.

💬 If you were planning right now, would you DIY more, cut your guest list, or skip the full-service planner?

💸 Brides ALWAYS forget these 3 wedding costs 👀?

Here are a few budget surprises that always catch brides off guard — but not you, because you’re planning like a pro now 😎👇🏾

✨ Delivery Fees – That $1,000 rental quote? Don’t forget to ask if delivery is included. Some vendors even charge extra if they have to pick up that night (especially late night pickups). Ask up front. Budget smarter.

🍽️ Vendor Meals – Your guest count might be 148, but don’t forget your photographer, officiant, and DJ will need to eat too. Most caterers offer vendor meal options — just ask early and build it in.

🥂 Bridal Suite Snacks – Getting ready with your girls? Yesss to the cute photos and mimosa moments! But those charcuterie boards and bubbly cost money. Don’t get hit with an unexpected bill the morning of. Plan ahead.

Planning smarter = less stress and fewer surprises. You’ve got this 🤍

Happy Planning!

💸The #1 mistake DIY brides make with their wedding budget (and how to avoid it):

So many brides either underestimate what their dream wedding actually costs… or skip creating a budget altogether and just pay for things as they come up. But that approach almost always leads to stress, overspending, or having to make last-minute compromises.

A real budget isn’t just a total number—it’s a breakdown of what you plan to spend on each part of your wedding: the venue, catering, flowers, rings, attire, photography, everything. It’s the tool that helps you stay in control from the very beginning.

Being in the middle of planning your wedding isn’t the time to find out that your dream bouquet could run you $250… or that the photographer you’ve been eyeing starts at $2,000. That’s a gut punch no one needs. The key is having a solid sense of what wedding services actually cost BEFORE you start planning—so you’re not blindsided when the proposals start rolling in.

This is exactly why I created the Wedding Budget Blueprint—to help brides like you understand what things actually cost so you can build a realistic budget that matches your vision.

If you’re planning your own wedding and don’t really know where to start—the budget. That’s where you start.

Happy planning!

Here’s what I really believe about weddings… and not everyone will agree 😅

It’s your day. You can do whatever you want.

❌ Skip the bouquet toss
👟 Wear sneakers
📅 Get married on a Wednesday
🥞Serve waffles
👗 Lose the cookie-cutter bridesmaid dresses

Do what feels right to you.

The best weddings I’ve ever been part of weren’t the most “traditional”—
They were the most true to the couple.

So break the rules.
And let your day reflect your love story.

💛 Your way. Always.

These are the three values that guide everything I do in business:

✨ Quality – From the ingredients I source to the vendors I trust, I believe in doing things well—never halfway.
✨ Service – The thoughtful, personal kind that makes people feel seen, remembered, and cared for.
✨ Excellence – Not perfection. Just intentional, meaningful attention to detail that honors the moment.

These aren’t just nice-sounding words. They come from my years in fine dining and hospitality—where every guest mattered and every experience was curated with care.

That’s how I move in business now. Whether I’m planning, styling, or catering, I bring those same standards with me.
Because you deserve that—and nothing less.

What I really wish more brides knew before they start planning their wedding:

💰 Know your budget first—not after.
Don’t book a venue or say yes to the dress until you’ve figured out your numbers. Otherwise, you’re planning backward—and that gets stressful REALLY fast.

📍 Understand your local costs.
What you see on Pinterest may not match your city. Venue, catering, florals… all of it varies wildly depending on where you are.

📸 Styled shoots are not real weddings.
That dreamy inspo photo with the velvet napkins and cascading orchids? Beautiful. Also? Probably not in budget for most people—and that’s okay!

👩🏽‍💼 Hire a day-of coordinator.
Even if you’re DIYing everything else, please don’t skip this. Your cousin cannot cue your ceremony, wrangle vendors, and enjoy the day with you. Trust me.

Wedding planning should feel exciting—not overwhelming.
And if no one’s said it yet: you don’t have to figure it all out alone.

💛 I’m here to help you plan smarter, not harder.

I have a confession.
I sort of hate social media. 🫣

Don’t get me wrong—I love a good Golden Retriever video and watching creativity unfold. But the filtered, hyper-curated, “everyone’s-an-expert” side of it? Exhausting.

That’s probably why you don’t see me post much. Most days, I’m deep in real life—raising my kiddos, playing in flowers🌸, hanging in catering kitchens🍽️, and helping people plan beautiful, meaningful events.✨

And after 15+ years of planning weddings, I’ve seen the same thing happen again and again: brides dive into planning excited, then end up overwhelmed and overspending.

Not because they aren’t trying hard—but because no one ever told them to start with a real, grounded, HONEST budget.

That’s why I created The Wedding Budget Blueprint.

This guide is for the brides doing it themselves. The ones trying to plan a beautiful day without a $50K budget—or losing their peace in the process. You deserve joy too.

It walks you through the WHY and HOW of building a budget that actually fits your life—not just what TikTok tells you it should cost.

Inside, you’ll get:
✅ A real-world breakdown of what wedding services actually cost—no fluff, just facts
✅ Tools to help you prioritize what matters most (and skip what doesn’t)
✅ A list of hidden costs and common budget traps to avoid from day one
✅ Honest insight on what’s worth DIY’ing—and what could cost you more in the long run
✅ The clarity and peace of mind to move forward confidently—without overspending or second-guessing
