Welcome back for another format friday!! Where i bring you a new format to play so you dont get bored with magic!! today i thought i would bring you standard!

There are 2 players of magic. those that play commander, and those that play standard. there are also a lot of us that like to try new things, but generally, these two player types battle it out in the LGS for space and clout on which format is king. While they fight, lets learn about standard play, then you can figure it out for yourself.

Standard play is a 60 card format that allows up to 4 copies of the same card in the deck. MTG has an updated ban list available on their website, and theres a limit on how far back on card history you can go, but for the most part, this was the first format magic was played in. there no color identity to stick with, you just play the cards you want to play in your deck. 7 cards to start, 20 life. This format is easy to play and build, and we will be having a small workshop on the 3rd friday of october for the first hour of league, so come join us if you want to experience standard!!

league is held at Northern Realms Trading Cards and starts september 18th, but you are welcome to join us any time!!

I want to address something that has been recently brought to our attention. And being that it is multiple sources, the validity is not in question.

We recently discovered someone that was working with us in planning our tournaments had repeatedly been inappropriate with some of our players and attendees in ways that made them feel uncomfortable and offended. Upon learning this, we have taken the action of asking this person to remove themselves and not attend our functions now or in the future. Personally, this is late action on our part, and it is with deepest sincerity we ask for grace and forgiveness from those affected by this person's actions.

We want to express that if at any time you're have questions, concerns, anything at all, please talk to us. The end goal is to grow a thriving community of players here on the Iron Range that we can call family. The hope is that the future is brighter and we can all be better in the end.

You are all valued and appreciated. Have a good evening, make good choices, and practice kindness!

you know what time it is!! Format friday!! where i bring you a new format to learn to keep your magic skills sharp and your play time fun!! Today, i thought pauper should get some love!

Pauper is a 60 card format (you can have as many cards as you want in a deck, but 60 is the standard deck size) where you can have up to 4 of each card and a side board of up to 15, but the only restriction is all cards must be common in their rarity. (how you tell what the rarity of your card is to look in the bottom left hand corner, you will see a C, a U, an R or an M.) MTG has a list of banned cards for this format on their website, the most common ones on the banned list are Atog, Daze, Sinkhole, and Treasure cruise. This is based on their power and warping abilities... i dont make the rules! Once you have your deck ready, it is regular standard play, 7 cards to start, 20 life.

This format can be a challenge, but it can also be fun and show off your deck building skills as all the cards are common and readily available in bulk! It has been a while since i have built a pauper deck, but i will be brushing off that dust the second friday of october!! We will have the first hour of league set aside to go over and build pauper decks of our own, then put the skills to the test!!! Ill be bringing in a box of cards or two to help with building! As always league is held at Northern Realms Trading Cards and is starting today!!

we are getting closer to the release of reality fractured, with many stores doing pre-release next weekend. Today, i want to go over my personal favorites!!

Liliana the Faultless is in WHITE... Like... what the what???? I love Lily. she is the whole reason i love zombies. her cards in this set are not planeswalkers oddly enough, but regular creatures! the card reads whenever another creature or planeswalker enters the battlefield you gain a life. simple enough. then for 1 colorless and tap, discard a card and give a creature or planeswalker hexproof. Love everything about this.

Now the Lily in black, Lily the Repentant, you mill 2 cards instead when stuff enters, and for 5 and a black mana, you can exhaust her and grab a creature or planeswalker from the graveyard and lily gets a +1/+1 counter. expensive, yes. but so much power in it.

i would love to see these cards at play, and the most dangerous would be zombies of course... or superfriends... or lily heavy decks... regardless, its gonna be great!!

have you guys heard of this new format called cat fight?? it looks like a ton of fun!!
it is a fan created format based entirely around nine-lives familiar. your deck consists of 40 cards, singleton, and all the cards must only cost 1 mana! you start with 9 life. your cat can not be exiled, tucked into your deck, flickered or turned face down. you win the game by either killing the cat (removing all of its counters) or taking all the life from your opponent.
I fully plan on including this format in a future league rotation, and i cant wait to see what you guys build for it!!
