During Abrakadoodle Spring Camp I had a group of 9 very creative kids, 6-12 year old, who learned about Museum Masterpieces.
We talked about the MoMA, in NYC, the National Gallery and the HishHorn Sculpture Garden in Washington, DC, The Louvre and the Pompidou, in Paris, and the Modern Tate in London.
And many, many artist!
We played soccer when it rained and one of the boys showed us how to make origami.
They also decorated wooden fans using techniques they learned.

Today I subbed for my boss and taught another Abrakadoodle lesson to 5 of the cutest kids and their parents.
From age ages 3 to 5, they put together this bird by glueing the pieces together.
Even though they all had to follow some steps, each and every bird came out different. And that’s because their work is unique!
One boy said his bird likes to sing hanging upside down and why not?
One girl had a lot of fun glueing the musical notes to her artwork.
Later she came to me and said she could speak French and I told her I could speak a little bit too so we had this little conversation and it was so adorable!

Do you know what a DIPTICH* is?
That’s what the 2nd graders learned today.
They used watercolor and black ink splashes for the background and then added the headphones cut out.
The brown one is mine.

A diptych (pronounced dip-tick) is a piece of art created in two parts. It may be a painting, drawing, photograph, carving, or any other flat artwork. The format of the pictures may be a landscape or portrait and the two parts will usually be the same size. If an artist adds a third panel, it would be a triptych.

The first lesson I taught to the second graders was how to make a house for an imaginery pet!
There were turtles, fish, dogs, cats and even alliens!
I asked one of the boys who is learning English to name his pet so he just looked at what was written on the piece of newspaper and named his cat, perfect! It’s the last picture.

Happy Saint Patricks Day!
I am glad the children on extended day had the opportunity to make this craft on Thursday before school was closed.
This wasn’t an easy pattern but they tried it and did a wonderful job!
And for the Leprachaun trap we set up, we will have to check it when we go back :)

The Snowy Day is a 1962 children’s picture book by American author and illustrator Ezra Jack Keats. It tells the story of Peter, a young boy having fun in the snow.
Since Peter makes tracks in the snow, I asked the kids to the same using pompoms, popsicle sticks, and prickly plastic balls. And then decide where Peter would go.

Our Valentines Day at school included sending notes home telling each other what we like about one another!
The children learned how to add a stamp to the envelope, stamp it, put it in the mailbox and deliver it to their bags.
They also learned how chocolate is made, got to smell chocolate nibs and had marshmallows for snack.
I got some awesome gifts from some of my students and coworkers and made them some gifts as well.
HAPPY VALENTINES DAY!

For our first birthday celebrating at extended day from a child in my class, I used this chart I bought at Michaels and used dinosaur post-its so not to have to write on it, to fill in the information.
Later I transferred the post-its to a card so the birthday girl could take it home.

The kids in my class are learning a song about how the ground hog sees (or not, hopefully!) his shadow.
So they were very excited to make this mask.
I used paper plates so they could color it and on the back there are the lyrics to the song.
Let’s see what Phil sees on Sunday, February 2nd!

It’s been cold!
So nothing better than a cup of hot chocolate with marshmallows, right?!
The initial idea was to use popsicle sticks which I switched to cardstock.

Yesterday I tough my 10th and last lesson to the Minis, 3 to 6 year olds.
I told them about the French painter Paul Gauguin and how he first went to Madagascar - I like to move it, move it - and then to Tahiti.
He liked still life so they painted oranges in a bowl.
