🚨 Small Business Scam Alert – Don’t Fall for This! 🚨

Running a small business means trusting your customers—but unfortunately, scammers are always looking for ways to take advantage. We recently fell victim to a fraudulent check scam that cost us $1,080, and we want to warn others.

A person claiming to be from a reputable law firm placed an order and sent a digital check. The check cleared in our account, so we refunded them via Zelle when they claimed their event was canceled. The next day, the bank pulled the funds, declaring the check fraudulent.

🔴 Here’s What You Need to Know:
✔️ A check can appear to clear in your account, but banks may take weeks to verify its legitimacy. If fraud is detected later, they will reverse the deposit.
✔️ Never issue refunds via Zelle, Venmo, or other instant payment methods before a check has been fully verified. (Note: It can take weeks)
✔️ Always verify large orders from unfamiliar customers, especially if they request a refund soon after paying.
✔️ Contact the issuing bank to confirm a check is legitimate before depositing.

We reported the fraud, but unfortunately, the money is gone. If you’re a business owner, stay vigilant! Scammers are getting more sophisticated, but by sharing our experiences, we can help protect each other.
