SKETCH OR PAINT THE ONE YOU LOVE: Your child, your dog, your hummingbird at the feeder...whatever you love and inspires you to want to capture it on canvas! Your creativity and artistic uniqueness will be encouraged in this program using the medium of your choosing.

Danny Jones has studied and taught all types of art around the U.S. He was so loved in Mansfield, there is a Middle School named in his honor!

Dannys ability to recognize the students' strengths and weaknesses will guide each person to discover how to build on their own artistic abilities. Danny will make suggestions, collaborate on your design and help with the design elements. Regardless of if you are a novice or an advanced student, you will love this class as you gain valuable knowledge and improve on your artistic abilities. In this 3-day workshop, you will work on art compositions completely of your own choice using any medium you prefer. You may sketch your beginning piece of art on paper or canvas before the first class or, if you prefer, you can begin working on the design elements with Danny in the workshop as there is plenty of time for one-on-one instruction.

This workshop is both fun and educational. All levels are welcome at this class.

Bring lunch to share and your individual art supplies.

$215 Member / $230 Non-Member

Monday-Tuesday and Wednesday. There will be a lunch break; students often socialize and bring snack items to share with the group during lunch each day.

Carl Catrone, a cherished regular at the Lakeway Activity Center and a dedicated library volunteer, was born in 1936 in Hancock, Wisconsin. From an early age, Carl developed a deep fascination with farm equipment, tractors, and vintage cars—interests that would define much of his life. Throughout his career, Carl owned and operated two successful muffler shops: first, Carco Muffler Shop, and later, his own venture, “Carl’s Muffler Shop.” After retiring from the business, Carl turned his attention to restoring classic tractors and collecting model cars, quickly amassing an impressive collection that reflected his lifelong passion. His collection grew so large that it required two spacious buildings to house his life-sized tractors and other restored treasures. Over the years, these buildings became a popular destination, drawing many groups eager to view his curated pieces. In 2013, Carl decided to part with his restored tractors and other items, but he held onto his beloved collection of farm equipment and cars. Carl graciously lent his prized collection to the Lakeway Activity Center, allowing visitors to enjoy the rich history and craftsmanship of these extraordinary machines.

Here at the Activity Center anyone has the opportunity to display their prized collection in our lobby display case. If you are interested please call us at 512-261-1010!

Join us for Coding Club at LAC! Coding Club is not just about coding but it will cover broader topics like typing, Internet safety, and technology literacy. What is a computer and its history? What is memory, bluetooth, the cloud, and cookies? What is ChatGPT? We will learn these topics through fun games or videos or coding projects. Students will be grouped by age and will learn age-appropriate content. Older students may be introduced to the binary system and younger students may be introduced to mouse skills.

Coding Club will introduce students to Scratch, a drag and drop block coding platform and community that will allow them to create games, stories, and animations. K-1st graders will learn to use Scratch Jr for pre-readers.

Students will be occasionally be paired to work together on projects and will occasionally demonstrate their work to other students. They will spend time online and offline learning critical thinking skills and how to think algorithmically. Students who have participated in our coding classes in the past will benefit from repetition and practice as learning to code is similar to learning music, requiring exposure to different patterns and arrangements. Projects are updated to challenge returning students.

Coding Club will meet for 2 weeks. Laptops and mice or touchscreen tablets will be provided for each student's use and are included in the cost. More details will be sent the week before the club begins.

Cost: $190 Non-Members, $175 Members

Cancellation Policy: Full payment is required to reserve your child's spot. Changes made two business days (Monday-Friday 8am-5pm) or after are not eligible for a refund.

We may cancel camps that do not meet the minimum enrollment of 4 students. In that case, a full refund will be issued.

About My Coding Place

My Coding Place started in 2018 to teach kids in Austin to solve problems with tools such as coding and chess. Our teachers are coders or chess players and our mission is to expose kids and teens to the art of computer programming and broader STEM topics to learn to think critically. We want students to love solving problems as much as we do and to be inspired and challenged in a creative environment. Our focus is on the problem-solving and translating logic to code by building cool projects to practice and reinforce concepts through different tools.
