BSN SPECIAL THURSDAY NIGHT VARSITY FOOTBALL MELBOURNE BULLDOGS AT SATELLITE SCORPIONS: PRESENTED BY Natwick Insurance, Inc. & ZONE 6 REAPERS 7v7;
The Melbourne Bulldogs will travel beachside to take on the Satellite Scorpions in a special Thursday night matchup.
One of these two teams will leave this matchup with their first win on the young season and then look to carry that momentum forward as there is still plenty of time remaining in the season.
The Bulldogs have played two tough games losing both by a combined 17-points. The defense has played well and the offense has moved the ball but will look to finish drives putting more points on the board.
Led by Tyler Gagen (25 tackles), Nate Alba (19 tackles) and Wyatt Votava (10 tackles), the Bulldogs defense is playing stingy again under coordinator Jeff Pannucci and they will look to get after the quarterback and force more turnovers against a Satellite offense that has scored nine points in two games.
Last week against Merritt Island the Bulldogs allowed just 157 yards of total offense.
On offense the Bulldogs have bent their opposing defenses moving the football between the 20’s but they haven’t quite broken through yet.
Melbourne will likely be without their starting quarterback from the first two weeks due to injury but this will give young signal callers sophomore, Carter Fisher and freshmen, CJ Hall a chance to shine, which both are fully capable of doing.
Sophomore running back Kymarion Johnson is off to a stellar start averaging 95 yards per game in the first two weeks with a touchdown and junior ball carrier Cannan McCarthy has made the most of his 11 touches as he’s averaging a first down every time he touches the ball.
McCarthy has 112 yards in the first two games and he’s also reached the end-zone
While the Satellite offense will be the first to tell you that the point total isn’t where they want it to be, like Melbourne, the Scorpions are moving the football.
To be fair this young offense has also faced three of the areas top defenses in Cocoa (kickoff Classic) Rockledge and Viera to start the season .
Junior running back Logan Waite runs hard and with purpose and he will look to find holes in the Melbourne defense. He has 107 yards through two games.
Sophomore QB Brody Grennan will continue to progress as he and his young wide receivers continue to build chemistry.
On defense the Scorpions have four players with double digit tackles so far this season. Seniors Colin Roddy (18), Seth Hufty (12) And Allen Steffen (11) have 41 combined stops while junior Dustin Strom has 10 tackles and leads the team early this season with two sacks.
The other double digit tackler is Allen
Satellite is heading into this contest looking to win their second second straight over the Bulldogs after taking last years matchup 25-8 at Melbourne.
While the Bullodgs have dropped two of the past three to Satellite, Melbourne is 13-2 vs. the Scorpions since 2004 and 37-18 all-time.
