Stepping away from Facebook personally means you sometimes hear news late… and today I learned that Allan Styx Hicks recently passed. He was a good soul who loved bluegrass enough to drive countless miles, film every show he could, and then go home and do all the work that nobody ever sees. If you haven’t already, please subscribe to his channel ... it’s a small way to honor the heart he poured into this music. We used to chat on FB. I even sent him a tripod once without telling him, just because he was so lovable and I could. Wish I had the pleasure of meeting him in person. We have to lift each other up while we’re here. I’m grateful I followed my gut on that. May he enjoy the heavenly bluegrass band. So many of the good’uns are getting gone.

Loved you, Styx. RIP, buddy. Godspeed.

Heard the sad news early this morning in a text from one of my besties. My heart just sank. Prayers for all who loved the Mr. Ronnie Bowmann.

I was blessed to film Ronnie with his Band of Ruhks bandmates at RenoFest back in 2016. I even had the honor of filming his daddy earlier at a small, intimate gathering near Dobson, NC. His daddy sure knew his way around a guitar, and he was mighty proud of his boy. Those are memories I’ll always hold close. God bless his family & friends!

Walking back through old videos feels a whole lot like flipping through an old family album. So many memories come rushing back. Folks like Brandy Miller, that girl can pick a banjo! I still wonder where life has carried her, and I sure hope the road’s been kind. I loved watching her play.

All those young’uns I used to see on stage have grown up now. Married, grown their own families. Time has a way of slipping by quietly like the sun going down. I reckon that means I’ve gathered a few more years myself, but I’m grateful for every single one.

Thankful for the music, the moments, and all the good times the Lord let me be a part of. Thankful for those I admired behind my camera. Wishing I had more time to get to know ya. One day time won't be a problem. Until then, I have my videos flooding my soul with sweet memories. Thank you Lord!
