FRIDAY FUN | THE MURAL AT NINTH - An Event Collective

The mural adorning the exterior of NINTH - an event collective is bursting with color! Created by internationally acclaimed artist Shahzia Sikander, this collaboration between the Cincinnati Art Museum and ArtWorks Cincinnati is infusing vibrant energy into the back of the church building, further solidifying Cincinnati’s status as a vibrant creative community.

What we find most heartwarming about this collaboration is witnessing the young painters, aged 14 to 24, relishing their time at this historic site during their daily lunch breaks - taking a moment to appreciate the sunlight streaming through the recently restored stained glass windows! NINTH, an event collective | Rebranding The Church on Ninth to NINTH, an event collective, there may not be much "pretty" to see in these photos, but when you're renovating a historic building like NINTH – an event collective that’s 155 years old – focusing on the essentials behind the walls and performing tuckpointing to clean the mortar between the bricks are crucial tasks. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the skilled tradesmen and women of Willow Creek Developers & Builders for the meticulous care they are providing to renovate and preserve this Cincinnati treasure.

THE CHURCH ON NINTH | Interior design choices are progressing at The Church on Ninth, as our trade partners diligently work behind the scenes to create what is set to become an amazing event space in Cincinnati! We extend our gratitude to Springhouse Architects' interior designer, Kayla Edwards, along with Willow Creek Developers & Builders, and Riffle & Associates for a truly illuminating morning spent collaborating on the lighting fixtures and lighting plan for this historic renovation project in downtown Cincinnati.

FRESH NEWS FROM THE OHIO AIR QUALITY DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY | The 118 W 9th St. project (THE CHURCH ON NINTH) transforms a formerly vacant 1869 church into a modern event venue while preserving its historic architectural integrity. Designed by Springhouse Architects, the historical renovations at The Church on Ninth are progressing nicely. Although it may seem that there aren't many noticeable changes to this beloved event venue, there's a flurry of activity happening behind the scenes! Currently, work is in progress on the HVAC system, electrical demolition is ongoing on the main level, and we are taking down the old ceiling to make way for new fire-rated ceilings. Additionally, as highlighted in the photos, the restoration of the original stained glass windows in the sanctuary is also continuing and we continue to love them!

It’s official! The Church on Ninth will feature a world-class mural created by internationally celebrated, Shahzia Sikander. This collaboration between the Cincinnati Art Museum and ArtWorks Cincinnati is set to enliven the back of the church building and further enhance Cincinnati’s reputation as a vibrant creative community.

Remember all the pews at The Church on Ninth? Well, church owner and Springhouse Architects founder and principal architect, Sheri Dempsey Scott, gave some away around town and got to sit in one this week during the friends & family opening for the new Marigold Restaurant () in the Foundry in the Fountain Square District.

Just 4 blocks from the church, Marigold Restaurant took the pews, gave them some love, and now they are a bench seat for the best seat in the house.

A gorgeous restaurant with a great atmosphere and truly incredible food, Marigold is open now and well worth a visit! For reservations, visit marigoldcincy.com and ask for the church pew table!
