I specialize in handmade professional ballet costumes. Nicole Roque grew up in Greenwich, Connecticut and has a background in classical ballet.

She was a student with the Connecticut Ballet, The Ballet Class in Rye, New York, and also attended a summer intensive with the Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet. After graduating in 2004 from Duquesne University, she joined the United States Air Force as a 2nd Lieutenant and was stationed overseas at Ramstein Air Base, Germany. Nicole was active duty for two years and just released from the Inact

ive Ready Reserve in April of 2014. Nicole took her first sewing class at Greenwich High School, and what was once a hobby is now her passion. After taking design, patternmaking, and color theory classes at the Art Institute of New York City, Nicole has come full-circle and has rediscovered her calling in classical ballet.

I love this new-to-me technique of appliqué. I’ve trimmed out the flowers from a metallic burnout organza and mounted them onto cotton. Then the new sturdier appliqués were hand-sewn onto a complementary jacquard. Et voila! A new textile!!
