Took a baby moon/family trip to Hawaii last summer, kinda on a whim because literally everyone else was doing it and I had major FOMO after a full year of being holed up. Looking back, it did feel a bit risky considering I was pregnant and my daughter was unvaccinated. But we went and came back safely, with huge sighs of relief once we were home. The pandemic has changed all of us and even though we’re pushing toward normalcy, I think we will always be a bit on edge, a bit more cautious, for the rest of our lives. And I hope my constant scolding “DONT TOUCH ANYTHING” or “PUT YOUR MASK BACK ON” won’t scar my kids too badly.

I am looking forward to travel plans very soon with my family once it's safe to do so! That might be sooner than you think. Get and there will be loads of freedom again. And my Etsy shop is now reopen with travel prints (the same ones as before, because I never traveled during the pandemic sighh). Think of mother. Or perhaps yourself.

is a place I will always want to return to...because is my favorite tv show! For all you fans out there, season 15 (gosh has it been that long??) is starting back up tonight on . And for the super fans out there, I have this print available on the ETSY shop (link in bio). One thing I love about film is how you can see such a beautiful gradient in color when shooting the sky. It’s not just all blue or white. There’s actually a whole spectrum of blues and whites and pinks from the sun, which can all be appreciated more easily when you print it out and see it in person.

Digging these up from the archives...another cool looking street in Tokyo. Even the McDonalds all look cool. I’ll admit, while we were there I went in and had a hamburger off their dollar menu. Let’s just say it’s really hard trying to take photos of ladies walking around in kimonos. Then I would see men going about wearing these Yukata robes—so I guess that’s when you know they’re tourists hehe. I just loved seeing all the beautiful fabrics and variety of patterns available in Japan. The Japanese have such an amazing sense of color and knack for fine artistry whether it be crafts, pottery, or textiles. They take such pride in the art of the handmade, despite how advanced and how saturated their society is with technology. I am completely in awe and adoration.

Wow. Just realized it’s been ages since I’ve posted on my Carollyphoto Instagram. I stopped photographing professionally earlier this year because quite frankly, I was burnt out. Perhaps one day I’ll return to it... as a baby photographer maybe?! But for now I’ve really enjoyed my time away from the business, focusing on more personal endeavors. I plan on posting a series of photos from our recent travels, where I’ve been exploring a different style of film photography that’s more photojournalistic and...more 35mm. So here’s an image I took right outside of Tokyo in the little town of Mitaka. It’s an impression of everyday-life. I felt the differences between American culture and Japanese culture way more acutely when we left Tokyo and saw how people went about their daily business. Vending machines and bicycles were my favorite scenes to capture.

My favorite instrument in the whole world--the cello. Unfortunately most of us who played instruments growing up probably no longer play them as adults (at least not regularly). I was excited at the workshop when they announced we were incorporating a cello into our photoshoot...I took it upon myself to make sure our model was positioned gracefully and convincingly like she really knew how to play...I think she pulled it off! 😊
