So grateful for the support of this amazing community! The dahlias are looking great, both the bread-and-butter varieties, as well as the “special specials.” Feel free to inquire about bulk dahlia orders for pickup later in the week in color palettes like white/neutral, autumnal and jewel/berry tones. I will be sure to include premium varieties that won’t easily be found elsewhere! Initial inventory is live for next week and uploaded continuously until the last minute!

So grateful for your orders this week! Without your support, this little dream of mine would not exist. (Dream sounds better than obsession, yes?) September is my absolute favorite time of year; more special dahlias are blooming every day and the roses are beginning their last flush. Also prepping for next spring’s flowers and I am super excited! When inventory goes live, emails are sent via Rooted with additions posted up until Sunday. See my IG stories for additions. Pickups in Mt Airy on Wed 9:30 to 11:30. Orders that are picked up at my farm in Quakertown (by appointment) get a 5% discount. The woes of not having a big enough vehicle.

Some photos of my latest curiosity project. Pictured are a couple of sizes (the result of different growing conditions plant and/or variability due to growing from seed. This is all one big experiment!). I tried a couple methods of overwintering last season. Apparently, S. purpurea reliably overwinter here with little care but I’m not drawn to their looks. (Naturally drawn to the option that requires extra care, of course.) Keeping my fingers crossed! If you care to share any nuggets of info regarding sarracenia culture, let’s talk!

Have you overwintered dahlias? Were you happy you did? I’d love to hear about your experience. Here are my candid thoughts: I overwintered dahlias for the first time EVER and let’s just say it did not go well. (Huge thanks to and for their excellent bulk tubers! ) This past winter was much colder than it had been for years (who can predict?). The survivors suffered through the plagues of summer (heat stress, corn borer, assorted pests) and looked like absolute h**1 compared to newly planted tubers. I know some people report success, but I was not happy AT ALL with the overwintered dahlias. Perhaps I should have cut them back more severely, or thinned more stems. I’ll leave some I don’t care about in the ground this winter and try different approaches next season. Do you like to overwinter dahlias in ground? I’d love to hear your thoughts.

Taking a moment to snap a few pics of some special things at the farm. The pitchers are a new obsession and I am having so much fun learning about them! Also, I changed my mind about astilbe; rather than toasted like my bagels, I like them even better lightly charred like my brick oven pizza.

The last several months have been a complete blur of events on- and off-farm. Thanks so much to everyone who has supported my small farm! I’m taking the summer off to attend to some family matters and hopefully do some travel. I will be back in the Fall!
