🌲 Sparky Trail is named after my first pony “Sparky.” The directional use trail runs parallel with the creek and is fairly level. Just above the first rise in the trail is a bench called “Jim’s Bench” named after the builder. When you take a moment to rest on the bench, be sure to listen for the symphony of bird song. 🐦‍⬛

🥾 Sparky Trail is around 0.32 miles long and is a moderate walk on a grassy path that goes up and down next to the creek.

🏠 Our tiny house, affectionately named La Casita, is ideal for one or two people. This charming one-room accommodation was completely renovated in 2019 and features a full-sized bed along with a chair that unfolds into a bed. The sink and cabinetry in the bathroom were taken from my parents’ original house, built in 1939.

🌅 When the weather’s nice, you can relax in the two chairs located on Coppei Beach or eat your lunch outside at the picnic table on La Casita’s patio.

Amenities include:
• French Press coffee maker/tea hot pot
• Kit of shampoo, conditioner, lotion, soap, shower cap, and makeup remover wipes
• Indoor bathroom and shower
• Outdoor garden area and access to Coppei Beach
• Wi-Fi/Internet access
• Mini fridge and microwave
• Fully equipped kitchen

What’s in a name? 🌟 Who is Stella?

Stella is the nickname Cheryl was given on a high school ski trip to Big Sky, Montana. It stuck, like fresh powder on a winter morning. ❄️⛷️
Stella is also the name of Jim’s old mare, the dependable soul who helped haul straw from the fields to the barn, making sure the livestock were fed. 🐴🌾

One name, two stories. Full of memories. 💫

⛰️ Nothing makes my day like knowing that someone has left renewed, relaxed, and restored. Thank you, Marcia, for your kind words.

“Sometimes lodging is a place to stay on a vacation, and sometimes it is so special that it becomes the vacation. The latter was our experience at Stella’s Homestead.” –Marcia, Seattle

🐄 🌾 My parents, Jim and Geraine Hansen, married in 1947 and settled where Stella’s Homestead is located today—just three miles from the original Hansen-Leid Homestead that was established in 1889. Stella’s Homestead arose from the Hansen legacy of raising Black Angus cattle and wheat farming on the South Fork Coppei Creek, where we now host our guests.

🌅 I never tire of bringing history and hospitality together for our guests who seem to relish in the story of our little corner of paradise.

🍷🍷🍷 One of my latest endeavors has been to grow grapes for our own Dona Stella wine that’s releasing in early May. The name means Madam Stella, which was what my students called me in Brazil when I taught English there. It is available exclusively at our property—and makes a perfect addition to a relaxing evening on the porch.

🐣🐣🐣 My parents raised over 100 chickens in this house in the 1950’s. The chickens provided meat and eggs to feed our large family and the harvest crew. With a vision to preserve all the coop’s original character, we have repurposed all the original wood, chicken feeders, hen laying bins and floor into the cozy space it is today.

🐈 Fun Fact: Besides featuring our grandmother’s metal cabinets and farm sink, this guest-favorite comes with washer and dryer, cooking basics, and Wi-Fi!

Hi! My name is Cheryl Hansen, and I’m honored to share with you a chance to experience this scenic property that has been in my family for generations. 🌾

I returned to our homestead in 2017 to care for my elderly mother and begin to work on my vision to create something beautiful that I could share with others. Thus began my long journey of cleaning up the property, repurposing buildings, and preserving my family’s legacy. 🚜

If you’re looking for a place of serene beauty and relaxation, I hope you’ll come and discover for yourself the magic of this place I love. 🌅

Where It All Began

Cheryl Hansen is your host at Stella’s Homestead. Her great-grandfather, Robert William Leid, purchased his first farm on top of historic Coppei Mountain in 1889. The original blacksmith shop, sheds, and water cistern exist today. Over seven decades the family worked the wheat fields, originally with horse and mule-drawn combines, later using tractor-pulled combines, and then more mechanized equipment.

Cheryl’s parents, Jim and Geraine, married in 1947 and settled where Stella’s Homestead is located today, 2.5 miles from the original Leid Homestead. Stella’s Homestead grew out of the Hansen legacy of wheat and cattle farming on the Coppei, where Cheryl welcomes family and private events that are perfect for enjoying great music, food, wine, and community.
