Factoid: a study we read a long time ago said that while guys like red roses girls like pink roses. Makes sense as men (as a group) tend to appreciate primary colors (of which red is a member) while women prefer pastels (pink is a prime example). What do you think about the study? Agree or disagree? And what kind of pink do you prefer: the soft pink on the left or the warm pink on the right?

Another picture from the Floriexpo trade show last week: Lilies. There are three (3) kinds of lilies: Asiatic (no fragrance), LA Hybrid (no fragrance) and Oriental lilies (BIG FRAGRANCE!). In our experience, 5% of the population do not like or are allergic to the Oriental lily fragrance. So about ten (10) years ago, a farm in California developed a pink Oriental lily that had no fragrance. After two (2) years, though, they pulled it from production. Why? Because the 95% of the public that loves the fragrance wouldn't buy a pink Oriental lily that had no fragrance!

We were at the Floriexpo trade show last week. One grower set up a display of different varieties of roses. Most people think there are red roses, pink roses, white roses, etc. But as this picture shows, roses can have slight variations in color, rose head size and petal count. Fun fact: professional rose bushes are grown for ten (10) years of crops. As the bush grows older, the size of the rose head diminishes to the point that after those ten years, the farm will tear that bush out of the ground and then plant a brand new variety.
