I have had these bananas for a very long time and it appears that 1 is starting to bloom. Shorter stiffer leaves are starting to grow.

This is a hardier variety able to be root hardy up to zone 8a. That means it stores well in the basement for the winter.

They have bloomed in the past but we almost lost all of them when the building was remodeled and the back of the building was taken off during the winter. Every stem froze all except 2 small pieces. It takes at least 4 years of growing in our climate to make 1 stalk bloom.

4 years ago Tom had a heart attack just before he was going to have a stress test. He was taken the the heart center in grand rapids where his heart stopped beating for over 30 minutes.

When his heart finally started again they did not expect him to be ok but he ended up with no heart or brain damage it is a miracle.

We are celebrating Tom's 4th rebirthday today!
