♾️ I see THINGS BEHIND THINGS BEHIND THINGS and there are rings within rings within rings.

I’ve been listening to the new album, Fable/ Sable on repeat this spring.

In an interview recently, he said, “I don’t have any regrets. Only lessons. And that’s where the word fable came from. It’s like a love story - but it’s a lesson. Every day you should be learning from love and what it does to you and how you can give better.”

I feel like I’m learning lessons/ fables of love every day on the farm and working with flowers. Creating the circles of care that radiates out from myself to my family, my animals, my plants, my designs, and then to my clients and to their loved ones.

Tending to myself is tending to the land is tending to the earth. Rings within rings within rings. ♾️

Mothering: a verb.

A way of being in the world that sometimes involves children but often involves the embodiment of care and tenderness.

As a person who would like to be a mother and hasn’t had the opportunity quite yet, M-DAY feels ripe with emotional challenge.

This M-DAY, I’d love to chat about the mothering of the non-child-kind that I witness with great admiration.

🐈‍⬛ I watch my husband mother our farm cat. He anxiously notes any deviation from his usual routine and obsesses over each little kitty detail.

🏫 I watch my friend mother a whole school of teachers and students. She is so careful to not let one person or to do item fall through the cracks.

🌲 I watch another friend mother a whole forest. Walking and watching. Taking note. Pulling invasives. Teaching folks how to take care of the trees.

💙 Give some love in the comments to folks you see doing some unseen mothering. 💙

I’ve always been a terribly overwrought artist. 😂I’m just constantly struggling to find deeper meeting to everything that I do. (Over-thinker, much? 🙋‍♀️)

One day, I was talking to a friend who is an artist and I was asking her like what’s the point of doing this if it doesn’t have a profound idea? How do I figure out what that deeper meaning is?

And she just looked at me and said you know you don’t have to have it all figured out. You can just make the art.

I looked at her blankly.

And course, she’s right.

That’s the thing about art. It can be so much and also nothing at all. It’s so much about the context and the viewer.

And this is true about flowers as well. Floral design can mean deep connection to the present moment in nature or symbols of unknown grief. It could transform & transport you or just be goddamn pretty.

So rather than angsting over the meaning, I’m taking a step this year towards allowing the meaning to flow in and out and instead connecting with others about where they see meaning.

I wanna know which of which of the sentences above really resonate with you? Tell me down in the comments. 😘

A few years ago, I read the incredible book, The Art of Gathering, by , it shed some light on how to reinvent the very ancient human activity of gathering for more meaning in our modern world. And as she put in a great interview with the podcast, We Can Do Hard Things, “As we are trying to birth a new world, we don’t have the rituals to match it so that people feel safe and connected to that world.”

I truly believe that the transformative nature of world-building starts with each of us - in our daily rituals and our momentous ones. So with that in mind, I offer this piece of writing, full of silly, intentional, and creative ways to build a world with a nature at the center. It’s called 50 Ways Nature Can Re-Enchant Your Gatherings (and Your Life). I hope you enjoy reading it, as much as I enjoyed writing it. You can find the link in my bio.

What do you stand for in 2025?

I’ve been thinking about this a lot as it looks like Meta is just bending the knee to our incoming president and taking off whatever reigns there might have been before on this platform to prevent hate speech and misinformation.

I’m not sure what I wanna do yet, but I just don’t think that I my content will be able to cut through the bullsh*t to have meaningful conversations and connect with my clients in such a space.

What are your thoughts about this? How are you connecting with your people that’s not on this platform?

Make sure to join my newsletter list if you wanna make sure to hear from me in the coming year! Who knows what’s gonna happen next.

I don’t tell people as often as I should, but…

We grow all our dang flowers ourselves! All the flowers in your CSA bouquet, all the flowers in the farmstand, all the flowers in our customer arrange arrangements and 95% of the flowers in every one of our weddings come from our farm.

It is kind of amazing how many people don’t actually know or seem to care about this fact, but I want to shout it from the rooftops!

Farms matter. Small farms, matter a lot! And dammit, if we don’t spend our money with small farmers, they will not exist in the future.

How are you showing up for the small farms in your community? Join a CSA!

Winter and early spring are the times in which the financial burden of farming is high and cash flow is low. Joining a CSA means that you are giving your local farms a cash injection at the time that they need it most and that you get the best and most beautiful flowers or produce the following spring.

If you’re in the Seattle area and would like to join the .flora Spring Flower CSA, just click the link in our bio to sign up. Pick ups will happen in Phinney Ridge and in Capitol Hill this spring.

🥕 I’d also love to know about other fabulous CSAs in the area. What’s your favorite flower or veggie CSA? Let me know in the comments below.

“One discovers the light in darkness, that is what darkness is for; but everything in our lives depends on how we bear the light. It is necessary, while in darkness, to know that there is a light somewhere, to know that in oneself, waiting to be found, there is a light.” -James Baldwin

Happy solstice folks! See you in the light.
