Just a few pictures from the Bonner Weihnachtsmarkt. We ate some Flammlachs and sipped some Glühwein. Can’t believe Christmas is just two days away!

You know I love a good theme, so when it was my time to host book club I had a lot of fun planning it. We read TARTUFO by Kira Jane Buxton, so naturally the lunch menu had to center around truffles!! I spotted some mushroom napkins and ran with that color palette. I made an arrangement with some flowers from Aldi, an antique brass dish I bought at a market, and a few extra mushrooms. I layered table runners to tie in the colors, and added taper candles and cake risers for some elevation for the appetizers.

Then created the menu:
Fried truffle and ricotta ravioli
Cream of mushroom soup
Mushroom tarts
Truffle Brie and salami
Truffle popcorn
Homemade chocolate truffles for dessert!

With a little planning and a few unique details, a simple book club gathering becomes elevated and elegant.

What fun ways do you host your book club?

In southeastern France lies the Verdon Gorge. If you’re into hiking, kayaking, rafting or rock climbing you have to check this place out. Not only is it stunning with its rocky jagged mountains and turquoise waters, but there are quaint villages and amazing local fare to try as well.

In the height of summer it gets crowded, so we booked the first morning slot for some kayaks starting at the Lake of Sainte Croix. The sun had yet to crest over the peaks, but as it did we watched the waters turn the most spectacular shade of blue! It’s about a 2km kayak up the gorge from the lake before you have to turn around (as the gorge up from that point is protected). We stopped and swam a bit before drying off and hopping in the car to explore.

We followed the Route des Crêtes, a 24km loop, with sweeping views and multiple viewpoints to stop along the way. It’s very windy with steep drops, but definitely worth the time (although the kids did get a little nauseous in the back of the car). Nothing a fresh jambon and butter baguette and Orangina couldn’t fix! All of this adventure was found using Moustieres as our base. If you’re feeling extra you can even book a sunset paraglide trip as well. So if you’re planning a trip to see the lavender fields you should absolutely include a few days here.
