BRIDAL BOUQUET BAR 📸 | New River Valley Bridal Expo - January 18, 2026

At yesterday‘s bridal expo, I offered a bouquet bar with four different shapes for brides to test out: round, pageant, cascade, and posey. Some have never held a bouquet before, and it’s just cool to hold a handful of gorgeous flowers. Others have their date, venue, and dress picked out and are starting to think about what they want their bouquet to look like, whether to go big or small, compact or loose, colorful or monochromatic. Holding a bouquet helps you see how it compliments your height and shape, and how it will highlight or detract from the silhouette of your wedding attire. I’m a very visual and spatial thinker, and it’s important for me to see you in person so I can build a bouquet just the right size and shape and style for you.

It was so much fun to see all these beautiful ladies holding my flowers, and it was such a joy to talk to so many brides and grooms about their wedding plans! I’d love the opportunity to make a custom bouquet for each of these brides! 🥂

BTS of my first bridal show yesterday with at the . I wanted to make a big, splashy debut, and we definitely achieved that! Came home with over 50 appointment commitments! So much planning and work behind the scenes to prepare for four hours of floral fabulousness. And guess what? I can do it for your wedding too!

Huge thanks for my team! It truly takes a village, and I’m so happy to have people who show up for me and help make my dreams a reality!

The story of my 1st Bridal Expo:

Just like any other event, it started with lots of planning — measurements, drawing my space to scale and devising the best configuration for showing the different aspects of my floral design business — then lots of numbers: how many bouquets, how many meadows, what’s going on the arch, how many stems, how much foliage. In addition to the florals, there were a lot of design — creating new signs and having them printed, finding a freebie and having it produced, putting together the right elements for a big wow moment.

That’s all followed by a lot of physical work – driving to Roanoke twice to buy flowers, unpacking and processing them, constantly moving buckets around in my garage, prepping vessels and stems, gathering and packing supplies. And THEN it’s flower time — a full day from dawn to dusk of arranging flowers, creating the bouquets and meadow arrangements. And after the last bouquet is done, loading a car and setting up the furniture at the venue so there’s less to transport and less to do in the morning.

The day of, I was up at 5 AM getting ready, packed two cars full of flowers and supplies at 6:30 AM, hit the road just after 7 AM, arrive at the venue at 8 AM for set up and floral arch installation, completed set at 11 AM so we’d have time to change and eat lunch before the doors opened at 12 PM, then 4 hours of talking with the show ending at 4 PM, and it was 6:30 PM when the back hatch of my Subaru closed and we headed off for celebratory drinks.

I can say I did all the planning, all the design, that every flower and piece of foliage was hand-selected and placed by me, but I could not have done it all without the help of two amazing people: my husband/manservant/business partner/digital marketing guru extraordinaire, and my very good best friend Kristan, who helped me execute my vision the day of and held in down on DIY side my booth. She is amazing! We were all satisfyingly exhausted at the end of the day, and I just cannot imagine it going any better. We got over 50 appointments, y’all. How absolutely lucky am I? My cup runneth over. Now it’s time to catch up on Traitors.

As a home-based floral designer, the local primary floral wholesaler does not deliver to my home, so I have to drive an hour to Roanoke to buy flowers. Shopping the coolers is one of my favorite things to do — I always love seeing what they have in stock — but it requires an early morning road trip. I left out that it was also below freezing and snowing. Braving the elements in the dark for flowers, y’all.

Yay !! I have my first bridal show this weekend, and Vistaprint came through with a couple of new signs for my expo booth! I use to make my images, but usually has better pricing on printing — especially with a coupon code! (They have great promos!)

I wanted a backdrop, but I just couldn’t afford a step & repeat. Because I’m setting up a lightweight wedding arch, I bought an inexpensive vinyl banner to hang from it, creating a backdrop and a great photo opp with my logo right in the middle! I also made a sign promoting my DIY services, which I intend to affix over the flower bar.

I have to admit, seeing my logo so big and my name beneath it feels a bit surreal. This moment has been so many years in the making! I am so excited!

Getting ready for the this weekend and remembering my own daughter‘s wedding a few of years ago. It was on our property in Pulaski County, and I did most of the planning myself (in just four months!). I designed the florals and sourced the dahlias from my friends at . Keller‘s signature color has always been purple, and she wanted her flowers to be purple and lavender. We hired a coordinator to run the show the day of, and I hired six girls to help me with the flowers and greenery. It turned out to be a beautiful day, although a bit windy, with a spectacular sunset, and a perfect night for dancing under the stars. We rented the clear tent, tables, chairs, dinnerware, cutlery, and barware from and I found vintage stemware for the tables. She preferred a collective centerpiece with flowers in medicine bottles and candles, and I added chimneys to the taper candles for safety and elegance. Most of her supplies are now in my inventory: lanterns, glasses, buckets, signs — and I have photos to show off my skills! What a special way to kick off my business here in the New River Valley!

Last week was delighted to assist Melissa Rose at on a wedding flowers delivery and set up at in Faber, Va. What a gorgeous backdrop for a wedding! It was a warm November day, and we had nicest time outside in the mountain breeze while installing our florals on the venue’s arbor. Inside, we set the dining tables with a collection of bud vases, and we added our leftover greenery to the fireplace mantle for lagniappe. After the ceremony, the venue’s wedding coordinator planned to move the large aisle arrangements and part of the arch florals into the reception to decorate the head table. Pro tip: Always repurpose your florals!

PINECONE WREATH | an easy DIY project

Last September visited the in-laws in South Carolina. They had tall pine trees in their yard, and pine cones littered the ground. Before leaving, I spent a few minutes collecting a shopping bag full of gorgeous pinecones, intending to do something with them someday. Nine months later my FIL died, and a few months later, my MIL sold the house. So this year for the holidays, I’m giving my MIL this wreath of pinecones from her old yard.

Making a pine cone wreath is pretty easy! It just takes good pine cones, a wire wreath form (available at your craft store for a few bucks), floral wire (I used a brown coated wire so it blends well with the brown cones), and snips to cut the wire. Older cones that were not so solid were great for stripping, giving me a stash of “petals” and “mini tree” cores I can use for another project.

After sorting the pinecones (and brushing off a lot of sand), I wrapped a 4-6” piece of wire around the base of each cone, leaving some length that I used to attach each cone to the wreath form, first with an outer ring, then an inner ring, and then smaller cones on top to fill any gaps. Making sure everything was tightly secured, I snipped the extra wire off the back. After hanging, I attached a big bow made of luxurious, dark green velvet ribbon, and voila! If you don’t have pinecones in your yard, find a friend who does!
