My name is Carolee Armstrong, and I am Five O’Clock Events.
My first ever “fancy” arch was an Easter arch for an event at the Main Post Chapel. It took 7 hours and the skin off all of my fingers. 😆 After I drug myself home that night covered in powder and smelling like a box of medical gloves I swore I’d never touch a balloon again. But the next day I saw families lined up to take pictures in front of it…moms with the biggest smiles, in the photos too, standing beside their children. And Soldiers, far from their own families, smiling and posing with their new friends, sending the pictures to their mamas and grandmamas, who I knew would be absolutely thrilled to see them looking so happy.
And that was it. I wanted to make one every time people gathered. Before that I thought of the balloons as temporary…so much work to create something enjoyed so briefly. But it’s actually the opposite. Those balloons provide the decorative backdrop of treasured images that will be cherished and shared for generations. My balloons will even outlive me. They make “memories”, these delicate moments that eventually become all we have, and all we want, when our children are grown and our friends have gone. How many memories would have been lost forever to time if not for my arch, encouraging all of us to slow down and savor the moment, and capture it.
Every time I build an arch that’s what is going through my mind: I’m creating the backdrop for…life, the most valuable and precious thing we possess. It’s a backdrop for capturing love we have given, received, and shared. And I am so very honored when I’m trusted with something so important.
Thank you, my dear clients, for giving me 2 years now of sharing in your celebrations. I am so excited for what this next year will bring. ❤️
