Sometimes the best gigs aren't the loudest ones.πππ
Last August, our community lost two officers in the line of duty. Last night, people gathered for a fundraiser to help send their families to Washington D.C. for a memorial service. A friend invited me to provide a sound system and play with the band during dinner, and it was an immediate yes.
Having a live band play during dinner is always a balancing act. You want that great live music energy in the room, but you definitely don't want people shouting across the table just to talk to each other.
So, instead of just pushing all the sound from the band, I spread the speakers across the whole room at a much lower volume.
That way, the music was full and clear, but the room still felt intimate. Guests could actually hold a conversation, share stories, and focus on why we were all really there.
Part of this job is just adapting to whatever the event calls for. But getting to use my time, sound equipment, and my guitar to help give back to this community was an absolute privilege.
Thank you to everyone who came out to the fairgrounds last night to support these families. π
