The Discovery is thrilled to announce the third installment of its acclaimed "Cruises That Inspire Series" with a special evening cruise titled "Geology & Wines." Join us aboard The Discovery on Friday, October 10, from 5:30–7:00 PM, for an enlightening journey that blends breathtaking views of West Grand Traverse Bay with an exploration of how the ground beneath our feet shapes the wines we enjoy.
Our distinguished guide for the evening will be Koffi Kpachavi, co-founder of Wine and Geology Tours and Executive Director of the Grand Traverse Conservation District. Koffi brings a wealth of knowledge and passion to the experience, with training as a Sommelier, hands-on vineyard experience in both Napa and Michigan, and a teaching background that includes assisting with Stanford’s renowned "Terroir: The Geology of Winemaking" course.
During the cruise, Koffi will illuminate the science of terroir—the intricate interplay of soils, rocks, and landscapes that imbue wine with its distinctive character. Guests will have the opportunity to compare Michigan’s unique wine-growing region to others around the world, gaining insight into what makes our local terroir truly special. A highlight of the evening will be a guided tasting of wines made from the same grape variety but cultivated in two different regions, allowing participants to directly experience the impact of geology on flavor.
Whether you are a dedicated wine enthusiast, a geology buff, or simply someone who appreciates learning in unique and inspiring settings, the "Geology & Wines" cruise promises an unforgettable evening.
