Today we celebrate Juneteenth, a day of freedom, resilience, and hope.

On June 19, 1865—more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed—Union troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, to inform enslaved African Americans that they were free. This historic day became known as Juneteenth, combining the words "June" and "nineteenth."

Juneteenth is more than a celebration of freedom. It is a reminder of the strength, perseverance, and contributions of African Americans throughout history. It is a time to honor our ancestors, reflect on the journey toward equality, and celebrate the rich culture, traditions, and legacies that continue to shape our communities.

As someone who values preserving family stories and honoring legacy, I encourage you to take a moment today to learn about your family history, share stories across generations, and celebrate those who came before us.
