🌊 AUGUST BOOK OF THE MONTH 🌊  is 🥁...🥁..🥁. LIGHT WIELDER BY RACHEL SCHNIEDER ⚔️

✨This month, we pick back up with the messy queen herself Josie, 4 years after that huge plot twist of a cliffhanger, which left readers and Acker reeling. As they navigate the difficulties of their decisions and war, we are dropped back into a world of mysterious twists & turns, angst, yearning, political intrigue and magic. Will these two continue suppressing their desires for what is best for their people? Or will the rising pressure create steam that can no longer be contained?

✨We’ll discuss it at a coffee & craft meet on Sunday 9/6 from 12 PM - 3 PM, RSVP via link in bio or DM me to save your spot 💗

Another memory added to the scrapbook 🥰 It was a wholesome afternoon spent catching up on life, playing board games, & discussing our June book One Last Stop by Casey McQuiston 🚃🕰️

⭐️ One Last Stop by Casey McQuiston, mini review: 4/5 ⭐️

Overall a cute, fluffy book reminiscent of a LGBTQIA+ version of Friends. It’s giving a comfort-watch sitcom a la found family, group diner scenes, a subway meet-cute, and a magical mystery spanning across time. The story follows a newly-made city girl named August as she moves to the big apple and into an anything-but-boring living situation. As she adjusts to city living, she meets the lovely and mysterious Jane on the Q train. This begins an off and on train car romantic tension that’s electrifying ( ;p) As August enters her Investigator Era, she solves old family mysteries… and what exactly is going on with Jane? For an easy, low-angst, warm read - One Last Stop meets the mark! If you wanna share your thoughts or a review, let’s discuss more in the comments!

☀️JULY BOOK OF THE MONTH ☀️ is 🥁...🥁..🥁. THE WRONG QUARTERBACK BY C.R. JANE 🏈

✨This month we’re on campus with Casey as she navigates college crushes, being crushed, and morally grey, slightly (?) stalkerish quarterbacks. Time for a semester of suspended belief with unhinged antics that will surely give us something to talk about.

✨We’ll discuss it at our coffee & craft meet on Sunday 8/2 from 12 PM - 3 PM, RSVP via link in bio or DM me to save your spot ❣️

✨PSA: In our group chat we talked about choosing the sequel to Metal Slinger called Light Wielder by Rachel Schneider as our August read. If you haven’t read the first book yet, now would be a great time to start so you can be ready to read book 2 with us come August!

✨See you guys this Sunday 7/12 @ 12 PM for our Kuties’ One Last Stop Meetup 🚃🕰️

⭐️ A Tongue so Sweet and Deadly by Sophia St. Germain, mini review: 4/5 ⭐️

Elessia isn’t like the other girls...she’s half-fae, with the power to compel anyone to do her bidding with a little eye contact and a command...okay maybe she is like most girls 💅 But her baggage? A traumatic youth ending in her capture by the Fae King, sworn to a blood oath, and exiled to the human lands. Years later, the Fae King comes a knocking to collect on his blood sworn promise and tasks Elessia to infiltrate the human elections to get information on the human’s Reagent and who may be responsible for the growing crime across the realms. We join Elessia on a journey of secrets, political intrigue, the complexity of love, and persevering through life’s challenges. While there’s a good chunk of world building in the beginning that takes a little to warm up to, it’s an easy read that picks up and hooks you by the end. It does end in a mildish cliff hanger, but I feel it’s a solid resting point and set up for book 2 (which I will be reading 😏). If you wanna share your thoughts or a review, let’s discuss more in the comments!

Another memory added to the scrapbook 🥰 It was a lovely afternoon catching up on life, crafting, and discussing our April book Shield of Sparrows by Devney Perry 🐍🪷

Shield of Sparrows by Devney Perry, mini review: 4/5 ⭐️

Odessa is no super sleuth, yet she’s been tasked with invading a foreign land through a magical marriage contract, uncovering all their secrets, and somehow taking down the massive force of a male known as The Guardian…easy right? Throw in some monsters, large scale political intrigue, mysterious twists, with a slow burn forbidden romance, and we get a story that feels familiar while offering a unique je ne sais quoi that makes it a stand out. Shield of Sparrows is reminiscent of The Bridge Kingdom mixed with a bit of Anathema- with a twist on the “Arranged Marriage” / “In love with the Mark” trope. The reversal of having a naive FMC in this role, paired with only her POV, allows for an intentional reveal of the layers of plot/story elements throughout the narrative that feels natural and well done. The story is action packed, with epic monster battles increasing the stakes. And the romance is a banter-filled, sizzling enemies-to-lovers / Trainer x Trainee dynamic that burns slow and yearns strongly. While the ending is brutal, it is a solid enough resting place if you want to take a break before getting into book 2. I’m interested in uncovering the larger mystery at hand and witnessing how the main couple’s relationship develops throughout the series as Odessa steps more into her own power. Overall, Shield of Sparrows is a solid addition to the romantasy genre and a great fantasy debut from Devney Perry…now I’ll definitely check out her contemporary work. If you wanna share your thoughts or a review, let’s discuss more in the comments!
