"I've always been curious about people, but somewhat shy. Initially, taking pictures made it easier for me to strike up a conversation with total strangers. A camera is a little like a visa - the stamp in the passport that grants one access to exotic places. It gives you a reason for being somewhere. ly - sometimes, cinematically from my own seemingly dull, middle class suburban upbringing," says Michelle. "I take pictures in order to understand and articulate something about the world in which we live. My photographs reflect my point of view, my sense of humor, and my compassion for people." Michelle Frankfurter is internationally recognized for her documentary photography. Her awards include two World Press Photo awards, an Aaron Siskind Foundation grant, a 2011 Top 50 Critical Mass winner, a finalist for the 2011 Aftermath Project and the 2012 Foto Evidence Book Award for her project Destino, documenting the journey of Central American migrants across Mexico. Her first book, Destino was published in September 2014 by Foto Evidence.
