My heart is so full after my wedding day all because of one wedding guest who never forgot about me after 23 years since the day I was her student at nine years old and even invited me to attend her wedding.
To my surprise, my wedding day with Mary Seise became far more magical and special thanks to a true full-circle moment I never imagined would happen.
I had the immense privilege of having my 3rd & 4th-grade teacher, Mrs. Katie French, there to celebrate with us. To see her smiling face in the crowd, so many years after she worked with me individually to overcome my learning difficulties to become a successful academic achiever, was just the most wonderful and humbling experience. Then to reunite with a hug at our wedding ceremony and share a dance at my wedding reception made us realize how far we both came from the relationship we had as student and teacher. She believed in me from the very first day she met me and knew that I was capable of accomplishing so much in my life.
It’s easy to forget the profound impact a teacher has on a young life, but the lessons I learned in her classroom at Avery Elementary School stayed with me. She was a woman who taught me not just academics, but also kindness, patience, and the confidence to believe in myself.
Thank you, Mrs. French, for your guidance all those years ago and for being there on my wedding day to witness this next chapter in my life. You helped lay the foundation for the person I am today, and I am so grateful you were part of my story then and now.
I’ll never forget you, Mrs. French. Just as you never forgot about me. And no matter where I go or what I do in my career, you’ll always be my very favorite teacher. And the best teacher I ever had.
