I just found the corner of an apex seal wedged inside one of the threaded tension-bolt holes in the front plate of an FD RX-7 engine I’m rebuilding.
I only discovered it because, while blowing out all the passages and bolt holes with compressed air, I noticed that particular hole sounded different from the others.

That piece had obviously been trapped in there since the engine’s previous build. It was wedged in so tightly that I had to forcibly dislodge it to get it out.

Just another reminder that when rebuilding a rotary engine, pay attention to everything. Sometimes even a different sound from the air nozzle is trying to tell you something.
