If you’ve ever wondered why photographers lose their minds about “larch season” in the North Cascades… this is why. 🍂
For a few short weeks every fall, the alpine larch trees turn this wild golden yellow. They’re one of the only conifers that actually change color and drop their needles. So for a little window in late September through mid October, entire mountain valleys glow like this.
Pair that with bright turquoise alpine lakes and rugged Cascade peaks and suddenly your elopement backdrop looks like it came straight out of a fantasy movie.
A few things couples should know if they’re dreaming about eloping during larch season:
Timing matters
Peak color usually happens between late September and mid October, but it changes every year depending on weather and elevation.
Expect a little adventure
Most larch forests sit at higher elevations, which usually means a hike to reach them. But the views (clearly) make it worth it.
Bring the adventure crew
Dogs are allowed on many North Cascades trails, which makes it perfect for couples who want their pups along for the day.
Weekdays are your friend
Larch season is short and wildly popular, so planning for sunrise or weekday adventures helps keep things quieter and more intimate.
Honestly, there are few places that feel as magical as the North Cascades in fall. Golden trees, alpine lakes, crisp mountain air, and a wedding day that feels more like an adventure than an event.
If this is your dream vibe… October in the Cascades might just be calling your name.
