For a second year in a row, The Workshop and West Seattle Junction Association are teaming up with SPU and Bold Reuse to make West Seattle Summer Fest 2025 a zero waste event!

Switching to reusables keeps thousands of pounds of waste out of landfills and gives a big high-five to our planet! Plus, it’s a huge win for reducing carbon emissions and saving water.

Team Tuesday!

New month, new team member. Meet Nick! If you’ve worked with us before, you may already know him as a dedicated crew member on many of The Workshop’s past projects. This summer, Nick joins our staff as a Production Site Manager where he’ll be putting his university studies into action. Welcome aboard, Nick!

What interests you most about the event industry and why have you chosen to study event production?

Each day is so different working in events, and the curveballs are constant. It’s like a giant puzzle. I’m currently studying Event Management at Iowa State and pursue it as a career because I love the challenge of events. This industry brings me joy everyday.

How did you become involved with The Workshop?

I became involved with The Workshop through a colleague of Dox’s who I helped design and run an event for in my home town. My first event with The Workshop was UW Family Weekend in 2023, they haven’t been able to shake me since- though picking up every last piece of confetti at that event tested my resolve.

What event are you most looking forward to working this summer and why?

I'm currently working on a Coca-Cola activation at the FIFA Club World Cup here in Seattle. Working behind the scenes on this mega event has given me a new perspective on the requirements of producing large-scale events.

What event or type of event do you aspire to work on?

I currently aspire to work with large public events and festivals. I love witnessing communities that might not normally interact come together to create lasting memories. Long-term I want to be able to work on a variety of projects that have positive community impact.

Team Tuesday!

May is for Mike! This month, we're celebrating our Production Manager, Mike Gilson. Mike’s helpful nature and team-first mindset reflect the culture here at The Workshop. His strong organizational skills and focus on pre-planning make him a natural fit for the demands of his role.

And when he's not creating detailed lists and spreadsheets, Mike is known for mixing up a mean cocktail. Cheers to you, Mike!

When did you get into the industry?

I started with The Workshop in the Summer of 2023 in the beer garden at West Seattle Summer Fest then worked as a production lead at the Bite of Seattle. Previous to events, I worked in Tech as a Software Test Lead and Project/Program Manager. I’ve also worn various hats in the Seattle Theater community; actor, stage manager, and bar manager to name a few.

What do you love about TW?

The team is amazing and represents an incredible breadth and depth of skills, with expertise gained from years of event production. I greatly appreciate working for a company that focuses on cultivating relationships with our customers. I love the team's organizational approach, and how we combine our backgrounds from other industries to make The Workshop a unique and stellar production company.

What event are you most proud of?

Bellevue New Year's Eve Night Market. I worked with one other colleague and a small crew to execute a new-to-us event in Bellevue last New Year’s Eve. This was my first time leading a project from event day load-in and organization, through event load-out. We managed a highly attended event safely and successfully and our client was very satisfied.

What are you most excited for in your work with The Workshop?

I'm looking forward to West Seattle Summer Fest! This year, I'll be Bar Manager in the Beer Garden—taking on more logistics and leadership. Every event brings new challenges and growth. From starting on crew to becoming Site Manager, and now Production Manager, I’m grateful for the journey and excited to keep learning with this team!

From renderings and mockups to real life set pieces! Swipe to see the progression of the custom backdrop panels we built for Transit Redmond Extension celebration last weekend.

Notes from the Field: It wasn't until the team arrived on-site that we discovered the stage was uneven due to the natural bow of the road surface beneath it—a curve that could’ve thrown the whole installation off balance.

Instead of letting it derail the design, our crew adapted in real-time. With teamwork and a healthy supply of shims, we carefully leveled each panel to maintain alignment across the set. The result? A seamless, striking visual that stayed true to the design.

Sometimes there are unexpected bumps in the road, but the show must go on—and we make sure it does.

Sound Transit Redmond Link Extension opens this weekend! Here’s an update on The Workshop’s custom design-build project for Saturday’s ribbon cutting event.

From prototype to panel proliferation! All panels for the stage backdrop are now built and painted. Custom graphics have been printed c/o SJ Graphics!

This concept was brought to life through a collaborative design process with our Sound Transit clients; from initial brainstorming and concept development, to 2D drawings, 3D scaled renderings, the project then moved into fabrication, and final installation prep.

Come see the final product and celebrate with us on Saturday May 10th at 10:30am at the Downtown Redmond Station 👍🪛🔨

Sneak peek at The Workshop’s custom design build element for ’s upcoming ribbon cutting event at the new Downtown Redmond Station.

We are building seven custom panels designed to provide a cleaner, more visually appealing stage backdrop for the celebration. Each panel will feature Sound Transit designed graphics created specifically for this event.

Chuck and Otis are hard at work building the panel prototype. Stay tuned for more build updates as we approach next week’s ribbon cutting event.

Team Tuesday

Cue Business Manager, Alice Hunting! Alice wears the BTS hat at The Workshop. While she’s mostly behind the scenes keeping books or behind the socials making content, she appreciates the opportunity to join the team for events every now and then. Alice’s previous work in hospitality, food service, and business management alchemize in the right doses for the world of event production administration. Riddle us this, Alice;

When did you start in the events industry? I joined The Workshop in Spring of 2023. Prior to joining The Workshop, my event experience was limited to attendee status. Burning Man, every Beyonce tour, and any women’s sports event top my attendance list.

What do you love about TW? I love the generosity of spirit of our team. We approach each other, our crews, our service partners and clients with respect and kindness. The Workshop is a good-will generator, as well as a kick ass event production company.

What event are you most proud of? The grand opening of the Seattle Aquarium’s Ocean Pavilion. Being part of the creative design team for this civic milestone is a point of pride. We executed a celebratory event on the Seattle waterfront within changing constraints and timelines, all the while maintaining a positive and trusting relationship with our client. A win win win.

What event are you most excited for? I’m excited for the possibility that The Workshop could be involved in World Cup and FIFA adjacent activities in and around Seattle. I am currently manifesting this 2026 GOOOOOOOOOOAL!!!! ⚽️
