Juneteenth Spotlight: Honoring Our Ancestors – Celebrating the Legacy of Evelyn Green

This Juneteenth, we proudly honor the life and legacy of the late Evelyn Green, a devoted educator, faithful servant, community pillar, and woman whose wisdom, love, and strength impacted generations throughout Searcy and White County.

Born on December 16, 1922, in West Point, Arkansas, Ms. Green dedicated her life to education and service. After attending White County Training School, Dunbar High School, Philander Smith College, and later earning her Master’s Degree from the University of Arkansas, she devoted more than four decades to teaching and shaping young minds.

Ms. Green taught at White County Training School from 1942–1966 and later at Searcy High School until her retirement in 1985. To many, she was more than a teacher, she was a mentor, encourager, prayer warrior, and guiding light.

Known for her faith and loving spirit, Ms. Green faithfully served her church, family, students, and community, leaving a legacy that continues to inspire generations.

Join us as we honor her beautiful legacy during the Searcy Juneteenth Freedom Festival on Saturday, June 20, 2026, from 5 PM–9 PM at Spring Park.

Let us continue celebrating the men and women whose sacrifices, strength, and dedication built the foundation we now stand on.

Juneteenth Spotlight: Honoring The Honorable Judge Leon Johnson – A Legacy of Excellence

This Juneteenth, we proudly celebrate The Honorable Judge Leon Johnson, a respected leader in law and a pillar of the Searcy community.

Judge Johnson is a Circuit Judge and a proud graduate of Searcy High School, Class of 1979.

Born on August 22, his journey has been marked by dedication, leadership, and a deep commitment to justice. Throughout his career, he has served in many impactful roles, including Interim Arkansas Attorney General, Adjunct Professor of Law at the UALR Bowen School of Law, and as a member of CARTI’s Board of Directors. He also served as President of the Arkansas Juvenile Justice Coalition, helping shape and support youth across the state.

Known for his wisdom, leadership, and service, Judge Johnson’s journey reflects resilience and purpose. As he shares, “My journey has taught me to be humble and to be grateful.” His life’s work continues to inspire and uplift those around him.

Today we honor the life, legacy, and leadership of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
A man whose vision, courage, and sacrifice continue to guide us toward unity, justice, and equality.

As we reflect on his dream, we are excited to share that planning is already underway for our 2026 Juneteenth celebration.

We will officially begin posting updates and information soon, so stay tuned as we prepare to celebrate our history, our culture, and our future together. ✊🏾🖤
