Dear Friends of the Concert Series,
Thank you for being part of the Scarsdale Piano and Chamber Music Series. We are delighted to share with you the three concerts that will open our new season this fall. Each brings a very different program and musical perspective, while continuing our commitment to presenting outstanding artists and repertoire in our community.
Our season opens with pianist Charlotte Hu, a prizewinner of the 12th Arthur Rubinstein International Piano Master Competition in Tel Aviv in 2008. Her program brings together the music of Frédéric Chopin and Pauline Viardot, two remarkable figures who were at the center of 19th-century Parisian musical life. Chopin’s monumental Polonaise-Fantasie anchors the first half, alongside Viardot’s rarely heard piano works and a selection of Chopin’s innovative Mazurkas. The second half turns to the colorful world of Enrique Granados, including his Danzas españolas and Goyescas, inspired by the paintings and atmosphere of Francisco Goya. The result is a fascinating program connecting music, literature, visual art, and the rich cultural life of 19th-century Europe.
We are especially pleased to welcome back baritone Gregory Feldmann, who will appear with pianist Sandro Russo in a program devoted to two of the great song cycles of the repertoire: Robert Schumann’s Dichterliebe and Ralph Vaughan Williams’ Songs of Travel. Feldmann, who is represented worldwide by the prestigious IMG Artists and is a member of the Metropolitan Opera roster, performs regularly in major venues around the world. Set to poetry by Heinrich Heine and Robert Louis Stevenson, these two cycles explore love, longing, solitude, memory, and the experience of travel. Although separated by generations and musical language, both composers create an intimate and powerful dialogue between voice and piano.
Our third concert features pianist Sarah Tuan, who competed in the prestigious International Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw in 2021, in a program entitled “Song and Dance.” The program includes music by Chopin, alongside works inspired by folk traditions, cultural identity, and everyday life. Lyrical, song-like pieces are contrasted with music shaped by dance rhythms and folk influences, revealing the many ways composers transform familiar musical elements into highly personal forms of expression while retaining traces of their cultural origins.
We warmly invite you to join us for these three concerts and to experience the remarkable variety of music and musicians that the Scarsdale Piano and Chamber Music Series has to offer. For complete program details, please see the enclosed flyers.
Tickets can be purchased at the door on the day of the performance.
We look forward to welcoming you this fall and sharing these wonderful musical experiences with you.
With cordial regards,
The Concert Committee
