Solidarity. Justice. Peace. Love. Respect.

The words are hard to find, and I have never been good with them. There are so many that have expressed so well the truths and tribulations of these times, I do not think I have much to add other than my support and admiration.

I would like to share a story of my own journey, for whatever it is worth. For me it started with a question: What is race? I was 18 and a freshman in college, my anthropology professor posed the question to the class. I grew up in a diverse community, a privilege that now I am forever grateful of, however at the time I had never really thought about what the word “race” means. I had always believed that it was rooted in some genetic/biological classification where people of white, black, asian, hispanic, etc. decent share a specific genetic makeup that when you look under a microscope tells you the “race” of that person..... that is not what race is. For a word that defines so much the life trajectory and and possibilities of every human being, it is no deeper than a social construct used to create divisions between groups of people based on the color of skin. This realization was an enlightening moment in my life and has continued to shape my world view and redefined that way I see humanity for the better.
