Make it Mariko, a WOC owned and operated event planning company hosted is its Brown Is Beautiful Holiday Party at CIEL on December 29. Founder Gina Mariko Rosales wanted to throw a party to celebrate the POC creative community.
Earlier this year, Gina was awarded the Jane Walker First Women Grant from IFundWomen. With the funds for her award, she decided that the best way to impact the success of her business was by acknowledging that, "we still need to learn how to live our lives and find our JOY to survive this together."
Gina and her team successfully created a space where people could let loose, have fun, find their joy, and do so safely during the pandemic.

What do you do as a large-scale event producer when pandemic restrictions cause you to lose 87% of your business income? If you’re Gina Mariko Rosales of San Francisco-based Make it Mariko, you get focused, lean on your experience, and team up with the right people!
Calling on lessons she learned as head of marketing events at Google X, Gina pivoted to virtual events and partnered with a friend who helped bring her digital productions to life. Today, Make it Mariko is thriving, and Gina has even raised almost $1 million for her next venture.
“What’s been crazy about COVID is we saw so much of the live events industry decimated and going out of business,” Gina says. “But with my experience at Google, I know about pivoting and changing direction, so I was able to pivot really fast to virtual and use my technology skills. I actually saw my business thrive.”
