Forever homesick for the flavors and comforts of home, the Dang 'Ohana got together and began working the local craft fair circuit selling homemade bath and body products and other imported island goods. In 2005, an opportunity arose for us to pool our resources and open a storefront in Japantown San Francisco and Aloha Warehouse was born. Our mission is to be co
mmunity oriented, striving to spread the message of keeping Aloha in our hearts and make our father, Albert Ah Wah dang who was born on the Pu'unene Plantation in Maui, proud as he looks down on us from above. We specialize in a variety of quality ukuleles, fresh lei and flower arrangements, Hawaiian apparel, foods, and plenty more!

I talked with a local Hawaiian business owner who has family in Hawaii and a San Jose State University professor who is in Honolulu...
Hurricane Lane was downgraded to a tropical storm Friday but that change of status did not change the deluge of rain that descended on Hawaii, bringing flooding to the Big Island.
The storm was all the worse, because of its lingering laid back pace.
"Hurricane Lane is in the slow lane...it's slowing down to two miles per hour right now," said Honolulu, Hawaii Mayor Kirk Caldwell.
More than 35 inches of rain fell on the eastern parts of the Big Island, turning roads and parks into rivers.
Honolulu's mayor warns there is still danger for Oahu.
"If we get that kind of rain here, we will have major, major problems. Flooding and damage, major, major damage," said Caldwaell.
As people prepared for the storm, there was another emergency. Friday morning in Maui, flames from a wildfire were whipped up by the storm's winds forcing evacuations in Lahaina.
In San Franicsco, Jessette Novero told us her friend's family lives there and had to flee the fire.
"They had to evacuate due to the fires," said Jessette Novero, "I believe cell towers are still down so they're still having communication issues trying to get to some family members."
Novero owns the Aloha Warehouse in Japantown, San Francisco. She has relatives on the Big Island, Maui, and Oahu. She says all of them have been preparing.
"Canned food, SPAM is a big one on their list, including Vienna sausages, so they're just making sure they have enough food supplies and clean water." said Novero.
Novero's shop shelves are bare, as some airlines canceled flights and deliveries from Hawaii.
Honolulu's mayor says more than 1,000 people are staying in shelters for evacuees.
San Jose State professor Peter Young spoke to us from Honolulu.
"I'm in a building that houses about 500 graduate students and so we've shut down the elevators much to their chagrin, they don't like that idea of hiking up 12 floors, but we do have 3 generators," said Young.
He says store shelves and the highways are empty.
"I just came from Safeway where they reopened about 5 hours and restocked some of the shelves. There's still no bread and there's still no toilet paper," said Young.
Officials told tourists to stay away from the beaches at Waikiki. Thousands of tourists in Hawaii are finding their dream vacations memorable, for an entirely different reason
"It's kind of weird though, you know, like we're just tourists so you know you can't take the same precautions as you were if you were home," said Jeremy Turley, a tourist from California
