San Francisco, CA

General information

My name is Michael Shannon. I bought my home in 1976; an 1892 Victorian, on the corner of Steiner and Grove, in San Francisco’s Historic Alamo Square District. The home became known as the SHANNON-KAVANAUGH HOUSE and our street, POSTCARD ROW. The house was a hippie crash pad. My mother took one look at the house and began crying. When asked what was wrong she said tearfully “you must be on drugs”. I finally managed to get everyone out (more about that another time). PRIVATE PARTIES An exhaustive restoration ensued which continues, today. The home has a magical feel when the gaslights are running and one looks out and sees the City Hall dome and San Francisco’s skyline on one side of the house and beautiful Alamo Square Park on the other side. The SHANNON-KAVANAUGH House will accommodate up to fifty people for private events. The dining room is available for smaller, formal sit-down functions. Weddings and Receptions After an exhaustive restoration, my mother was the first person to be married at my home when she wed her second husband in 1978; quickly followed by friends and family. It took awhile but I caught on that I could start charging for this. I marry people, now. Who would have thought…? The home has been host to Jewish and Traditional Chinese weddings as well as Commitment Ceremonies and Gay Weddings. We pride ourselves on providing a quintessential San Francisco venue…sophisticated and elegant. Corporate and Non-Profit Events Corporations began approaching me; looking for a location for private events that offered a quintessential San Francisco experience. The home has been host to team-building programs for Oracle, formal dinner parties for all of the top automotive brands and a formal dinner party for Queensland’s Première. The home has been host to a myriad of fundraisers. Among these were events for the Elton John Aids Foundation, Victorian Alliance and Artistic Alliance. LOCATION FOR FILM, TV, COMMERCIALS & PRINT ADS The major films shot at the house include Invasion of the “Body Snatchers”, “Maxie” and “Junior”. Featured in the long running TV series “Full-House”, the home and “Post-Card Row” became a national and later international icon for San Francisco. According to Kodak, the SHANNON-KAVANAUGH House as the anchor of post-card row has become one of the most photographed spots in the United States. TOURS As “Postcard Row” and the surrounding Alamo Square historic district grew in popularity, I started working with Destination Management Companies, Tour Operators in offering home tours of the house. Tour guests are interested in how the home fit into San Francisco’s history as well as my experiences remodeling the home. House Tours can include Afternoon Tea or Champagne Service. VACATION RENTAL The former maid’s quarters was turned into a Garden Apartment and is host to families from all over the World who are seeking a vacation rental in San Francisco. As you can see there are many opportunities for you to share the QUINTESSENTIAL SAN FRANCISCO EXPERIENCE in the BELLE OF POSTCARD ROW - the SHANNON-KAVANAUGH HOUSE. I’d love to hear from you! Sincerely, Michael [email protected]
