When you are contracting with your suppliers, have you considered adding language in about mask wearing, vaccination requirements, or any other requirements that you may want to have in place even when the government is not mandating it? It is something to think about as about 2 weeks ago the CDC put our country in the highest level of transmission rates for COVID (red tier) stating that it expects us to peak on or about September 21. That said, it would be prudent to require mask wearing in-doors regardless if you are vaccinated or not however some states and locations are not requiring mask wearing even though we are in the Red Tier for COVID transmission right now. That said, if you plan ahead for "just in case" scenarios, you may want to think about adding language like this into your supplier contracts at least through the end of 2021. It may save you much headache down the road in the instance of upticks in variants of COVID. Just something to think about.

Covid-19 Shield Laws Proliferate Even as Liability Suits Do Not

COVID Shield laws; these laws protect planners, hosts, suppliers from liability arising from COVID. Each state has varying laws but in general these laws say that if someone wants to sue you because they blame you for getting COVID, they have to prove certain things like: the person has to prove that they caught COVID at your event and a doctor in the state where the person thinks they transmitted COVID would need to give them a note stating that the doctor believes the person caught COVID at the event. Also, the person would likely have to prove that the meeting host and/or hotel/venue was negligent and/or committed willful misconduct before a judge would likely hold you liable. So, if you meet in a state with a COVID shield laws, there is some coverage for those of us putting health safety first and making sure we are not operating or managing our meetings in the same manner in which we always have managed them. It requires a shift in paradigm.
