LENGTHY POST.
I thought I’d give you a little background on Mindfruit.
The first Mindfruit party was Friday May 12, 1996. A lot of the events happening in that era were recycling the same DJs. Sure, I loved them as well… it was just that they were always in the same combination. I noticed that everyone, including the DJs, were too comfortable with each other. People were also afraid of introducing new artists. So, I set out to change that. The first lineup was Markie of the Wicked Crew, Hipp-E, Jon Williams (techno god of San Francisco), Daeman (a SD fave back then who loved housey breaks), Fabian (soulful house dj of LA who rarely played in SD), and we introduced Joshua from the La area (who was into acid house). We were the first to bring Halo out to Southern California from Chicago and paired him with Hipp-E, which became the spark of a longtime relationship.
I then moved to Italy for nearly 2 decades! When I came back, I was excited to dance to DJs I couldn’t experience in Italy. Totally different taste in music out there. However, within just four months of being back… it was the same thing. Same DJs over and over (again and in same combos) at the same venues. So despite saying to myself no more events, I brought back Mindfruit Friday June 9, 2017. This first was more of an experiment. Found a venue that wasn’t used very much, brought Dj Diz out from Chicago, paired him with Mark Quark and Ryan Bauer. Nobody knew who Mindfruit anymore, so I hustled like it was my first event ever. Since then, Mindfruit grew at a steady pace with the highlights being hosting Paul Johnson for his San Diego premier, bringing in In Da Hoody & Enter The Tech for the Bloom series, and getting Taylor Houseman as my other resident DJ (and creative partner),
Now, with the first Mindfruit event after the pandemic (𝗠𝗜𝗡𝗗𝗙𝗥𝗨𝗜𝗧 𝑰𝑺 𝑩𝑨𝑪𝑲! 𝐒𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐝𝐚𝐲 April 30: A Warehouse Experience), I am back at square one. It’s like starting over again. This next event is in a new warehouse in Barrio Logan (actually, I wanted to use it pre-pandemic!). NO, it is not on Main Street!!! It is on Logan Ave. With Taylor, we have curated the lineup to be people who push each other to do better. With Mindfruit fundamentally being an ACID HOUSE party, we wanted to put together the next generation of heads that understand this. Acid House is not strictly house music. It is techno, electro, soulful… but above all: it is avant-garde and heady AF. So, whether you are into house, techno, or anything that touches on either… this party is for you!!!
