Swipe to unveil the massive brass section ⏩ 🎺 📯

Over 20 brass musicians filled the stage and choral terrace during the San Diego Symphony’s performance of Shostakovich Symphony No. 7 in May for an epic performance! Also known as the “Leningrad Symphony,” the brass section plays a crucial role in depicting both the horrors of war and the resilience of the human spirit.

“A celestial homecoming brimming with hope and consolation.” ✨

San Diego Symphony’s season came to a powerful close last weekend with Mahler’s monumental Symphony No. 3—led by Music Director Rafael Payare and featuring mezzo-soprano Karen Cargill, the San Diego Symphony Chorus, and the San Diego Children's Choir.

In his review, Ken Herman of San Diego Story praised the “laudably high standards of performance and interpretation,” calling this expansive work “a worthwhile journey” and a fitting bookend to a season that began with Mahler’s Resurrection Symphony.

We’re grateful to all who joined us in the concert hall for this unforgettable performance—and to our incredible musicians, chorus, and community partners for bringing Mahler’s world-embracing vision to life.
