It feels like a lifetime, but 10 years ago today I coordinated for my first “paying” client. I’d done several for people I knew, a couple for trade, i had paid my dues and learned from experience, and this couple took a gamble on a young 25 year old, just starting her own company, who was willing to work harder than anyone else to make their wedding awesome. It was the first time coordinating a wedding for people I had no connection to previously. They saw a wedding I was setting up a few months before, asked for my card (my first edition business cards were rough guys!) They contacted me, interviewed me, and hired me! I came up with ideas, they approved or denied. I helped make their favors, I hand made their signs with stencils that i still have in my garage, I even helped give them pointers on how to do their own flowers.
Their standing ceremony on top of the bluffs at Cabrillo is an experience I will never forget! It was perfectly about them!
