The cast invites you to join us in a practice of somatic techniques to tune your senses toward a deeper experience of the dance experiment that is Portal | Amá. All are welcome! Come as you are...no dance experience is needed to connect with the ground, the space, yourself, and others.

Beginning at 4:30pm, meet San Ysidro neighbors and residents sing a one of a kind, composed musical piece named “Sounds of San Ysidro” This project was made in part by the UCSD - CASA Community Station, with Wilfrido Terrazas, Natalia Merlano Gómez, & Camilo Zamudio of UCSD & the Center on Global Justice🌀

Casa Familiar is proud to announce the opening of a new exhibition at The Front Arte y Cultura - “Infinite Traditions”, one that explores artisanal practices, traditions, and crafts that have been passed down through generations.

Join us for an opening reception on July 12th, 5pm-7pm at The FRONT Gallery (147 W San Ysidro Blvd, San Ysidro Ca 92154), where featured Colombian artist Andrea Echeverri will be sharing more about her work.

Infinite Rivers will run through September 13, 2025.

Featuring works from indigenous artists from the Kumeyaay community, Chemehuevi, Zapotec, Huichol, Taraumara communities, as well as artists from San Diego-Tijuana, Lebanon, and Colombia, the pieces exhibited share dialogue between the traditional and the contemporary - showing that while some are kept intact, some are constantly evolving.

“Infinite Rivers invites us to appreciate these practices from a caring and culturally conscious approach.” - Francisco Eme, Gallery Director and curator.

PORTAL will be presenting “Amá” at El Salon ✨

SYNOPSIS:
Through the joining of our hands as an ancestral and essential gesture, the relationship between leadership and followership, and the idea that borders exist in the tension between their sides and the body that crosses them. Amá becomes an invitation to let ourselves dance, to soften the effort, and to remember that, in essence, we are water.
