If I could, I’d pull up a chair and ask you to sit with me, real close.

Together we’d share silence, breathing deeply of the same air, looking to the horizon.

I’d say “what a gift to be alive” and “what a moment in time to share life.”

Together we’d honor the collective trauma and grief that cracks our hearts so wide. And also the small miracles that seem to hold hearts together.

It’s a new week and a new day and new seasons are upon us.

May we be beginnings for others. Seated in circles of belonging and hope. Sharing presence and so much more.

Know that you have a seat beside me today and always and that I feel so honored to do life together.

“Still, what I want in my life is to be willing
to be dazzled -
to cast aside the weight or facts

and maybe even to float a little
above this difficult world.

I want to believe I am looking into the white fire of a great mystery. I want to believe that the imperfections are nothing - that the light is everything - that it is more than the sum of each flawed blossom rising and falling. And I do.”
- poem by Mary Oliver

These are the words and thoughts I’ve been meditating on lately. To hold the weight of this difficult world yet somehow float just a bit above it. To grieve, toil, fight, vote, and still believe in the light.

This is my prayer for us. That we’ll never lose sight of the light ✨

Perspective is everything.

This is the hard yet beautiful lesson that I will spend my life learning and relearning and choosing to believe.

This is what the couples who I work with often struggle with the most throughout their engagement and planning season. Maintaining perspective. Reframing the negative to uphold the positive. Looking for the good.

It is so 100% OK to be human and feel and think negative thoughts. Be kind to yourself when that happens. But what if we intentionally positioned ourselves to reframe that negativity and make it something beautiful? That I believe is magic and the secret ingredient to life.

Dylan and I celebrated 6 years of marriage a few days ago. We had dreamt of celebrating in Europe which was derailed by covid, then had plans for a California roadtrip which was cancelled due to the fires. So we celebrated with a picnic, rollerblading and dinner out in our own hometown. And it was so so lovely.

We reflected on what we’ve learned over the past several years and lived it out through our celebrations:
✨ marriage is fun, seek joy in the simple things
✨life doesn’t go as planned so roll with it in good times and in bad
✨focus on what matters most and continue choosing one another
✨keep dreaming and working hard (one day the Europe trip will happen)
✨remember that today is a gift and the best is yet to come

Every so often I come across a piece of writing or art that makes my heart say, “yes!! This is exactly how I feel, I couldn’t have said it better myself.” I’m so thankful to have just discovered and wanted to share these beautiful and so so important thoughts.

“Silence is a collision. If you hear something racist, sexist, discriminatory, bigoted, etc. and you say nothing, you have colluded with what was said or done. In the words of Elie Wiesel, 'We must take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented. Sometimes we must interfere.'

Diversity, equity, and inclusion is a job for everyone. It’s not a job just for the diversity specialist, activist, presidents of homeowner associations, executive leadership, and progressive clergy. It is the job of every neighbor, every co-worker, every citizen, every parent, every friend, and every participant of society."—Amber Booth-McCoy, Diversity Specialist & Founder of The Diversity Booth, INC. "El silencio es una colisión. Si escuchas algo ra***ta, sexista, discriminatorio, intolerante, etc. y no dices nada, estás aceptando lo que se dijo o hizo. En palabras de Elie Wiesel, 'Debemos tomar partido. La neutralidad ayuda al opresor, nunca a la víctima. El silencio alienta al atormentador, nunca al atormentado. A veces debemos interferir.'

Don’t forget to stop and smell the flowers.

This is a strange season for all of us. I’ve personally felt really overwhelmed by this virus, racism, the current election cycle, and this San Diego heat! Ha!

A few things that are helping me find joy:
- evening walks where I literally stop and smell the flowers
- food! Taco Tuesdays, Mimosa Friday’s, Pizza Sunday’s.
- essential oils, my current favorite is Young Living’s Valor blend.
- more time with my husband cause we’re both stuck at home!

What are the little things brining you joy these days?
