Jonathan Anderson's runways for Loewe always attract an audience. But because the house's strong suit has historically been in accessories, there tends to be a sharper focus on the shoes and handbags that the designer unveils each season, which have a track record of becoming "it" items among the fashion crowd.

In the days leading up to its Spring 2022 debut, Loewe (and Anderson) began teasing some of what we would see during its Paris Fashion Week show, particularly when it came to the accessories: close-ups of black leather sandals with pink birthday candle and red nail polish bottle for heels, of a rose getting crushed under the weight of someone's step. Indeed, these playful, Dadaist shoes play a key role in a collection that the brand itself characterized as "neurotic, psychedelic, completely hysterical."

"The Loewe Spring 2022 collection is an experimental statement that marks a point of departure, and opens a new chapter," the show notes read. "Provocation, sensuality, movement and amusement break up the Loewe mould."

The apparel — with its draping, sculptural elements, movement and play with proportion — is inspired by the "mannerist, hysterical world of Renaissance painter Pontormo," per the show notes. Then, there's the shoe reveal: a series of sandals and pumps where, in lieu of traditional heels, are "ready-made" objects, including a cracked egg, rose and previously-teased candle and nail polish, among other things.

These shoes "suggest fragility and spontaneity," the brand explains, and speak to the other underlying themes and feelings that inform the Spring 2022 collection. Elsewhere in the footwear assortment, Loewe's Flow Runner sneakers have been reissued in a translucent compostable plastic, and appear alongside Ugg-like boots covered in a soft teddy fabric.

With this collection, "new archetypes are defined," the show notes suggest. "A collection that asks to be seen flowing in movement, as experimentation unfolds on living bodies in a real space."

So... who will be the first to wear these ready-made heels off the runway?

As we enter the holiday season, there are certain styles that feel expected, as fun as they are: piles of thick velvet, miles and miles of sequins, lush jewel tones. But if you're looking to stand out, there are less obvious choices to be made.

Selita Ebanks may have worn this outstanding outfit to a Steve & Marjorie Harvey Foundation Gala in May 2012, but it wouldn't be out of place at a festive winter party, either. The dress is a frothy, frilly confection from Christian Siriano's Spring 2012 collection, an otherwise simple chiffon shirtdress covered in rosettes at the sleeves, bust, hips and hem.

Sounds pretty springy, right? But rendered in a neutral, mushroom shade of taupe, this is the kind of dress that could take you through all seasons. Ebanks paired hers with a pair of gold peep-toe Christian Louboutins, but picture it with sheer black tights and a fun pump, and you've got a standout holiday party look that's anything but expected.

You don't have to look far or hard to see Zoë Kravitz in a good outfit. Just open Instagram — you'll likely find her in the coolest baggy jeans you've ever laid eyes on and then meditate on her innate ability to make a cream turtleneck an instant fall must-have. Who needs the runway when Kravitz makes a lunch date with Channing Tatum the place to spot trends?

A master of chic everyday dressing, Kravitz has even managed to make her Halloween costumes stand out from the proverbial pack. In 2018, the actor attended a Casamigos Halloween party in an outfit that she called "Mornings Suck Vampire." In other words she was a vampire at breakfast, complete with a satin robe, striped boxers, a pair of "Seinfeld" socks, furry Gucci loafers and a pink towel, which was wrapped around her head in true "just showered" fashion. She rounded out the morning ensemble with a smiley face mug, a stack of newspapers and crystal-encrusted cat-eye sunglasses. While she applied fake blood by her mouth and on her white tank, there really wasn't anything scary about this look — and, in my opinion, it's an ideal Halloween costume, striking the perfect balance between casual and clever with a little fashion sprinkled in.

The CFDA Awards are coming back IRL in a week, so we couldn't pass up the opportunity to remember one of the all-time great looks to walk the red carpet of the biggest award show in fashion — we're talking, of course, about Diana Ross sparkling (and coordinated) in custom Bob Mackie.

Robin Givhan wrote in the Washington Post at the time that "the presentation should have been called the Miss Diana Ross show," as she "arrived in a cloud of purple sequins, marabou and hair to present a special award to designer Bob Mackie, who has created so many of her costumes." (He also dressed Sandra Bernhard, the show's host, that evening, according to Givhan's reporting.) It was Bob Mackie at his best: the sparkle courtesy of all-over sequins, the electric use of color, the oversized stylized floral accents, the oversized furry coat to top it all off, cooly worn off the shoulder with a shrug.

Of course, Ross — for whom Mackie frequently created — brought the look to life with her infectious energy, which still comes across in the images from that night, over two decades later. She was so committed to it, she even had some purple streaks in her hair to match the gown and jacket.

As real-life embodiments of joy, optimism, radiance, confidence and talent, Lizzo and Christopher John Rogers have a lot in common, so it's no wonder that when the two team up, the results are magical. That's never been truer than when the superstar singer wore a neon-green gown by the CFDA Award-nominated designer to the GLAAD Awards in 2019. She even once told Vogue it was her favorite red-carpet look.

As with most things Lizzo wears, the look was playful, inventive and statement-making, with that touch of unapologetic elegance and glamour Rogers always incorporates into his designs. Even in that wacky color, it's a chic moment. I also love that she accessorized within the citrus color family, rather than try to tamper down the brightness with a more neutral shoe.

From when she first entered the scene as a Burberry Prorsum girl to more recent sartorial chapters featuring voluminous gowns by Valentino, Louis Vuitton and Oscar de la Renta — plus considered efforts to spotlight diverse talent in the industry — she's had a point of view when it comes to fashion, always striking that balance between timeless elegance and impact. The Tom Ford dress she wore to the 2019 Vanity Fair Oscars after party exemplifies this: Dripping with silver beaded fringe, the mock-neck, long-sleeved sheer gown was reminiscent of the glitzy, embellished show costumes of old Hollywood films — and stood in stark contrast with the big, tiered magenta Valentino look she wore on the red carpet earlier that evening. Two outfits, two different takes on glamour.

It was only the beginning for the actor's relationship with Ford: Later that year, Chan would attend the Met Gala with the designer, in an equally epic metallic ensemble.

There's something special about celebrity wedding gowns — or rather, celebrities in wedding gowns. And while I appreciate a train that goes on for miles and the statement-making elegance of a royal wedding dress, I love when a famous couple opts for simple, unconventional nuptial garb.

My recipe for a winning celebrity bridal look usually involves abbreviated silhouettes and suits. Yoko Ono, who tied the knot with John Lennon in 1969, went for the former. Ono married a legend in an ordinary summer outfit that consisted of a white tiered mini dress, a floppy sun hat, oversized sunglasses, knee-high socks and white sneakers. She was the sartorial picture of happily ever after — as in, her body wasn't stuffed in a can of tulle — and what spells marital bliss more than making memories with your partner in a comfortable outfit? Her wedding look epitomized comfort and ease, and it's something we all could recreate in a second.

Adele's "73 Questions" with Vogue gave me about 200 more reasons to love her — aside from her impeccable choice of kitchen countertops and cabinet colors, the singer revealed that Cate Blanchett is her style icon, a declaration that confirms her sartorial taste is as impressive as her delivery of any melody. Much like an Adele song, Blanchett's red carpet looks stay with you long after an awards show: They're powerfully unique and boast an ethereal quality that a couture gown could not accomplish on its own.

At the 2011 Academy Awards, Blanchett made a poised and memorable appearance in a lilac Givenchy Couture dress. The ground-sweeping chiffon gown featured an architectural breast piece and chartreuse beading along the back and shoulders. Magazines praised the actor for her avant grade choice, even though there is something so remarkably simple and graceful about its design. The breast piece, specifically, resembled more of a ceremonial or sacred garment, whereas now it's become a trend in its own right, only more sculptural and armor-like — think Tom Ford's anatomical chrome ones and Loewe's artful gold pieces.

Yara Shahidi has never put anything on her body that hasn't become a great outfit. She's a walking mannequin for sartorial success, and her stylist Jason Bolden does just enough risk-taking and trend-following to always put her at the top of our best-dressed lists. Whether the actor is a darling in pink or using fashion to get an important message across, Shahidi has an innate ability to bring vibrancy and a bright, youthful spirit to any look.

Shahidi cast her cheery disposition on a glorified groufit at a Hollywood Reporter event in 2017. The gray-leaning ensemble by Paco Rabanne looked like a reworked classic menswear suit, featuring parachute pants and a tailored tunic-like top fitted at the waist with a belt. To make it even cooler, Bolden styled it with asymmetrical earrings. It may not have been a bespoke couture confection, but its understated cool elegance made it pretty great.

By early 2011, bird motifs had become so ubiquitous that Carrie Brownstein and Fred Armisen dedicated an entire sketch on "Portlandia" to the mania, featuring the instant-classic catchphrase, "Put a bird on it!" But back in 2006, when Kirsten Dunst was attending Cannes to support Sofia Coppola's "Marie Antoinette," the trend for winged creatures was just starting to take flight, and the Rochas dress she chose for the occasion felt fresh and exciting.

From Olivier Theysken's Fall 2006 collection for the French house, which was inspired by Victorian chimney sweeps, Dunst's gown was absolute perfection: a sooty shade of pale blue that popped against her features, with an open back and a flock of birds making their way to the ever-so-slight train.

Dunst wasn't one for much styling during this period, but because this was Cannes, she amped things up on the hair and beauty front with a wraparound milkmaid-style braid — left slightly messy, of course — and a smokey eye further accenting the whole look. The only accessory is a pair of diamond earrings Marie Antoinette herself would approve of.

There are perfectly good celebrity style moments, and then there are the looks that really stick with you, the ones you try desperately to recreate at home. In 'Great Outfits in Fashion History,' Fashionista editors are revisiting their all-time favorite lewks.

From the moment she made her red carpet debut, Lupita Nyong'o has been one of the most consistent, exciting public figures when it comes to fashion. Over the years, she and longtime stylist Micaela Erlanger have collaborated on a myriad memorable looks, from designers big and small, many of which feature a level of detail and craftsmanship that deserve to be admired up close, like, say, in a museum.

Well, you're in luck, because one of Nyong'o's very best — the white high-neck Dior Haute Couture gown she wore to the 2018 Cannes Film Festival — is on display right now in Brooklyn, as part of the "Christian Dior: Designer of Dreams" exhibition at the Brooklyn Museum, which runs until February 20, 2022.

The exhibit, which debuted in Paris and made stops in London and Shanghai before arriving in New York City in September, chronicles the history of the French fashion house, starting with its founder, before tracing how each of his successors not only continued to push Christian Dior's vision forward, but also brought in new ideas to the maison. Naturally, it also delves into the brand's strong presence in Hollywood, with a host of famous gowns — including Nyong'o's — shown alongside images of the celebrity who wore it on the red carpet.

Nyong'o's Cannes look is from the Maria Grazia Chiuri era, plucked from the Spring 2018 Haute Couture collection, which was inspired by Surrealism. The all-white dress featured a sheer caged-look bodice and a long skirt accented by petal-like feathers, which made for beautiful movement on the carpet. (In a 2019 Instagram post, Erlanger said the "gown took three weeks to create.") Accessories consisted of Chopard drop diamond earrings, and nothing else — just the right amount of sparkle.
