WHEN THE BRIDE AND GROOM HAVE KNOWN EACH OTHER FOR 60 YEARS.

A love story worthy of a book, but I only have a couple thousand characters so I’m gonna try and do them justice.

J + D met in their early 20s, became friends, and eventually dated for a couple of years. Then life did what life sometimes does — they went their separate ways. They each found other great loves, built beautiful families, grew careers, and went on to have full, wonderful lives of their own.

Many years later, after each had experienced profound loss and the unimaginable grief of losing a spouse, their paths crossed again.

And maybe, just maybe, their story wasn’t finished yet.

On a sunny (and very windy) Saturday in July, J + D were surrounded by their adult children and grandchildren, neighbors, church friends, and so many of the people they’ve loved and embraced along the way, right there on their front lawn where they would be married.

It was intimate. It was low-key. It was completely them.

And the joy was palpable.

After 60 years of knowing one another, a lifetime of separate adventures, and more than a little life lived in between…

J + D finally got their second chance. And if you ask me, it was worth the wait.

Some days I stalk the weather radar like I am betting on it (no this isn’t a Kalshi ad). K + H’s engagement session day was one of those days. When we arrived, the storm was just passing through so we decided to wait it out to see what it would do. Luckily it let up, and the lighting was perfect - giving us all of the moody vibes and rich colors. It also conveniently emptied out the park (I love when that happens). I am so excited to celebrate them later this year, and I am sure I will be stalking the radar again for that day because, well, Texas!

There’s a new venue on the scene and they let me come and play for an afternoon!! I love styled shoots in that it allows me to have fun, get creative, and just play with things I have been wanting to try. At The Foxwood, I took a more editorial and edgy approach to posing than I typically do and played with some different flash concepts. Not super typical on a wedding day but I made sure to photograph them in the bathroom, because, well, the wallpaper was really cute. I also popped the couple up on to the bar for some photos as well, which isn’t always feasible on a typical wedding day either.
