The wedding is one beautiful day — marriage is the lifetime that follows. Here’s advice that truly matters in the early years:

1. Protect the friendship. Weekly dates are a must! You don't have to go out and spend money. An in-home date is just as fun!

2. Learn how to fight nicely. Don't say things you will regret. No underhanded digs. Remember that you are in love.

3. Communicate to avoid resentment. Air your feelings. Don't let something bothering you build up resentment.

4. Keep choosing each other. Love is a CHOICE. Show up every day and keep choosing your partner.

5. Create your own traditions. Carrying over traditions from your childhood is nice, but creating new ones with your spouse is even more special.
