Big Thanks to Birch Run Wrestling for hosting the 52nd Saginaw County Tournament!
The tournament ran smooth and people loved seeing it back at Birch Run! 🐾

Great day hosting the Saginaw County Invitational. BR finished 2nd overall out of 13 teams, 17 placers, and 1 County Champ - Brayden Cox - 120 lbs.

🚨 52nd Saginaw County Wrestling Tournament Recap 🚨

Wow—what an incredible day of wrestling at Birch Run High School! Yesterday’s tournament was one for the history books, and we have so many highlights to share!

🏆 Freeland High School captured their first-ever Saginaw County Championship in school history!

🥇 Quinton Everett of Chesaning High School became a 4-time County Champion, defeating a tough opponent, Kaelen Harrington (Birch Run HS), in the finals with an 11-3 decision. Quinton was named Most Valuable Wrestler (MVW) of the lower weights.
Achieving the title of 4-Time Champ is an accomplishment that very few wrestlers have been able to achieve at this historic tournament.

🔥 One of the most exciting matches of the day featured Michael Baldwin (Saginaw United), Division 1’s #1-ranked wrestler at 175 lbs, bumping up to 190 lbs to face Ethan Wakefield (Michigan Lutheran Seminary), Division 4’s #1-ranked wrestler at 190 lbs. Baldwin came out on top with a 14-7 win and earned the MVW for the upper weights.

👏 The Coaches' Award was given to Malachi Hill (Freeland HS, 138 lbs), the #6-ranked wrestler in the state in Division 2, who pinned Bradyn Curtis (Frankenmuth HS), the #6-ranked wrestler in the state at 132 lbs in Division 3, with a pin in the third period!

🎖️ Coach of the Year honors went to Jon Rosebush and Dareus Boddie of Freeland—a well-deserved recognition for two of the greatest leaders of young men and women we know!

🏅 The Paul Sipiala Award was presented to Jayden Oats (Saginaw United, 175 lbs), honoring his incredible work ethic and "no excuses" attitude—an inspiring example of dedication and perseverance.

🙏 A special shoutout to the Fordney Club of Saginaw County of Saginaw County for their continued support of this tournament through their annual donation that makes what we do possible. We are so grateful for their commitment to Saginaw County Wrestling. A big thanks to Matt Gronda, Fordney Club President, for attending and personally presenting the Fordney Cup to Freeland!

🎉 Huge Thank You to the Fordney Club of Saginaw County! 🙏

We are incredibly grateful for the generous $2,850 donation from the Fordney Club, which allows us to continue growing and supporting the wrestlers of Saginaw County. Last season, thanks to their support, we were able to launch our first-ever Middle School County Wrestling Tournament and our Summer Wrestling Clinic—both amazing milestones for the SCWA.

This season, we’ve taken things even further by starting a Scholarship program for one male and one female wrestler, and we acquired the Saginaw County Fordney Cup, a prestigious award given to the Saginaw County Varsity Tournament Champions.

Yesterday, during the SVSU football game against Truman, the Fordney Club honored us with a check for their contribution last season. Saginaw County coaches, wrestlers, and the Fordney Club took the field for a special check ceremony during the first quarter.

We want to extend a huge thank you to the Fordney Club for their continued support and generosity. Without their help, many of our programs wouldn’t be possible, and we’re excited to continue this strong partnership for seasons to come.

We’d also like to thank SVSU Athletics for welcoming us during their Red Feather Game, and to the Fordney Club for giving our coaches and athletes a great experience with a tailgate and free entry to the game!

The future looks bright for wrestling in Saginaw County, and we couldn’t do it without the incredible community support we receive. 💪🤼‍♂️

🙌 Big Thanks to SC Designs & Apparel ! 🙌

We want to give a huge shoutout to SC Designs & Apparel for making this year’s clinic t-shirts possible. But they didn’t stop there! S&C also played a big part at our Tournament in helping us raise money for the two SCWA Wrestling Scholarships we started doing this year—one for a male wrestler and one for a female wrestler.

Their support has been amazing, and we couldn’t have done it without them. If you need custom gear or design work, definitely check them out—they’re awesome to work with!

Saginaw County Clinic--Major Success!

A big shoutout to Matt Santos and Layne Malczewski for putting on an outstanding clinic! These two are phenomenal clinicians. It's rare to witness a group of wrestlers putting in such hard work and having so much fun. Matt and Layne made it all happen. Truly top-tier coaches! The SCWA extends its heartfelt thanks!

We also want to extend a special thank you to Coach Ernie Huizar, the head coach for Bridgeport, for volunteering to host and make this possible. Thank you to Bridgeport Schools for allowing this event and taking such good care of us.

🎉🏆 Huge Congratulations to Michael Baldwin! 🏆🎉

Michael Baldwin, a Junior wrestler from Arthur Hill High School, had an amazing performance at the Central Regionals in Fort Wayne, Indiana, this weekend. Michael took on some tough competition and came out with impressive results, finishing 4th in Freestyle and 3rd in Greco-Roman. His hard work and determination have earned him a spot at the prestigious Fargo tournament in North Dakota this July!

On top of that, Michael had an outstanding season back home as the Saginaw County Champion and Most Valuable Wrestler of the County Tournament. He also finshed 3rd in the State at the MHSAA State tournament this season in Division 1.

Join us in giving a big shoutout to Michael for his dedication and achievements. We can't wait to see what he accomplishes next at the Fargodome! 🌟🤼‍♂️
