This is a wedding trend I can really get behind: the Irish Exit, also known as the Irish Goodbye.
For those unfamiliar with the term, it's when you leave a social event without making the rounds to say goodbye, you simply slip out.
Why does this matter at weddings?
Many guests who leave early feel the need to find the couple before heading out. The intention is good, but the timing often isn't. By the time dancing is underway, the couple is finally relaxing, celebrating, and enjoying their time on the dance floor with friends and family. Yet they're repeatedly pulled off the dance floor by well-meaning guests who want to say goodbye.
Here's the reality: they don't want you to leave, and they certainly don't need to be interrupted twenty times while they're having the time of their lives. I'd also argue that saying goodbye is often more for the guest than it is for the couple.
Recently, I've had three different couples ask me to explain the Irish Exit and encourage guests to use it if they need to leave early. Their message was simple:
"If you need to head out, please know you have our blessing to sneak away and let us keep celebrating."
It's one of the few wedding trends that actually helps the bride and groom enjoy more of their own party.
