"Mr. Speaker, members of the House, staff, and guests:

Today, as we extend our observance of 'Dress in Blue for Colon Cancer Awareness Day'—in line with Missouri statute RSMo 9.156—I am honored to welcome a remarkable Missourian to our Capitol and to this House Floor: Jordan McConahay.

Eleven months ago, Jordan walked into the emergency room thinking she had a severe stomach bug. Instead, she received a devastating diagnosis: Stage 4 colorectal cancer. In an instant, she had to step away from a career she loved to fight for her life.
Colorectal cancer is now the leading cause of cancer death in men under 50 and the second leading cause in women under 50—yet routine screening often doesn't begin until age 45. The 5-year relative survival rate for distant-stage, metastatic disease is about 15%, according to the latest American Cancer Society data. Jordan's journey has been one of profound challenge, but also extraordinary resilience and grace.

Despite the treatments, surgeries, endless appointments, and the reality that her cancer is terminal and now palliative—with her prognosis shifting and time more limited—she has not slowed her spirit. Jordan and her family have welcomed a new foster child, adopted, gained guardianship, and continued raising their 4-year-old daughter. She has organized a Colon Cancer Awareness Walk, spoken to City Council, addressed a Cancer Gala, created care baskets for other families facing cancer, and served her church community—even showing up to her children's sports events with a chemo bag in hand.

Jordan fights every day: for more tomorrows with her family, to demonstrate the faithfulness of a loving God—her mantra from the very first hospital stay has been, 'The LORD is my Shepherd'—and to advocate so others might be spared this path or better equipped to walk it. She has left encouraging 'graffiti' on the walls of this valley through her story, her faith, and her actions.

Jordan, on behalf of this body, we thank you for your determination, your advocacy, and your example of courage in the face of unimaginable hardship. We stand with you, your family, and all those fighting colorectal cancer. We wear blue today in your honor and in commitment to greater awareness, earlier detection, and better outcomes.

You can imagine the shock I was in getting into the Capitol this morning to find out that an email had been sent to wear blue today for colorectal cancer awareness/ me. I’m truly honored that State Representative Don Mayhew recognized me this morning in front of the House of Representatives! 💙
