Front Street Furniture and Appliances was selected as business for the month of May by the Richton Front Street Association.
Front Street Furniture and Appliances started out as “Opal’s Fabrics” in 1966 and later, some furniture was added to the rear of the store. Opal Meadows remains the owner still today. She and her late husband, Marvin Meadows, later decided to acquire the adjacent two buildings as they became vacant. These buildings were renovated with a new façade and interior improvements. The fabric store has been fazed out as sewing has become almost obsolete.
The old Carley’s Drug Store building was vacant, so it was acquired as well. It now houses all the bedroom furniture, as space became limited at the bigger store.
Front Street Furniture and Appliances carries name brands such as GE, Mayo, Home Stretch, Liberty, Tennessee Enterprises, Vaughn-Basset, American Woodcrafters, Brazil and more. Among the best sellers are GE appliances, recliners and lift chairs by Home Stretch, which is made in North Mississippi. Motion furniture such as sectionals, sofas and loveseats are also made by Home Stretch and Brazil.
Customers come from not only Richton, but surrounding areas such as Petal, Hattiesburg, Leakesville, State Line, New Augusta, and at times, the Gulf Coast and Jackson.
Front Street Furniture and Appliances will celebrate 60 years of business in Richton in 2026. Your business is always appreciated as Richton continues to grow and thrive.
