A lovely mix of charcuterie pairings will complement the evening. Space is limited so book your ticket soon! We are so excited to bring a new fun design class to our EG line-up and welcome a new local expert, Raj, to our classroom.

It's hard to imagine that my father-in-law Ray could have envisioned as a little boy on a dairy farm in eastern NC that one day his military service would take him to Korea. Ray shared me with once that the only thing linking the two places was his dislike of cabbage. He didn't like to eat it as a kid and he sure didn't like the kimchi that greeted him in Korea. Ray might not have found many similarities between his NC home and his military travels but the lessons of hard work, faith, family and kindness he learned in Willard followed him everywhere he went. We think of Ray and miss him every day but notably on Memorial Day when posts honoring those who served and continue to serve conjure memories of his stories of the 38th parallel and how much he missed American food. Ray wore his military service with quiet dignity. He chose to serve because he felt it was as much his duty as an American as voting, pay his fair share of taxes and being a good husband, father and neighbor.

This Memorial Day we miss him as much as ever and we remember and honor his service and the service of all those serving in our military.

Hoping everyone had a beautiful Memorial Day filled with family, friends, thankfulness and, as Ray would put it, hopefully no more cabbage than a little bit of slaw on a hot dog.

We generally reserve our pinks for Wednesday but these beauties were too lovely not to share on this gray Sunday. A gardeny confection of pink, white, blush and green in celebration of a little one's christening. The client's blue & white vases served as a wonderful contrast to the delicate, springy blooms.

Mother’s Day week was a wonderful, wild, whirlwind. Every Mother’s Day holiday at the EG holds special memories but this one will be hard to beat. Settling into our new home we found the best groove as a team. Our vendors delivered beautiful product and this infinitely talented team created the most amazing bouquets. Venetia traveled from Texas to be here. My Aunt Doris popped in to design a couple of days as well. Slate was up from the coast to deliver but he also indulged us with a fajita feast cooked up in his discada. Almertia shared her skills as the baby whisperer as Baby Jude joined us for Bri’s first flower shop Mother’s Day. And when all the flowers were delivered we enjoyed a toast to the week, to our amazing customers and to this special little corner of the flower world where our English Garden family finds its home. This was our 17th Mother’s Day flowering our wonderful city and community. To all the folks who entrusted us with flower gifts celebrating their Moms, Thank You! To our flower vendor & farm friends, thank you for keeping us blooming! And to this EG Team that brings so much love, talent and spirit to every design day, you are more than a dream team. You are family.

Sometimes we get a little caught up in pinks and reds for Mother's Day. Or maybe find ourselves going all in on school colors as college and high school graduations fill up our weekends. May is a BUSY month and an equally colorful one. So we decided to embrace that energy, that color and create one of most colorful, vibrant May BOMs ever! From white to orange, this gathering has a little bit of everything. Cottage yarrow, a mix of local touches (that might vary with each bouquet), roses, hydrangea, peonies, snapdragons, stock and a fun foliage and filler elements. Mary Beth is responsible for this absolute riot of color and variety. If you know MB, she is a riot of fun and laughter and energy! This bouquet speaks to what a fabulous and colorful Mom and human being she is. We think your mom will love it too! Heck, who wouldn't love this! Delivered in a lovely market wrap unless you want to upgrade and add a vase or make it a double. Available for same day delivery in Raleigh and the Triangle every day of the week but Sunday.

When Pappy Van Winkle invites you to dinner, you dress the tables with 🥃 inspired blooms and “Old Fashioned” charm. Leonidas, Barista, Hearts and Toffee roses paired with a boozy mix of anthuriums, scabiosa, hypericum berries, protea, and lots of mint set the tone for a fabulous Triangle Wine & Food Experience dinner party benefitting the Frankie Lemmon School complete with an engaging bourbon tasting led by Julian Van Winkle. Every time we have the joy of dressing the tables at the beautiful and inviting home Eliza Olander has created we think, “This is the prettiest evening yet.” Today as the finishing touches came together, Gene, Darcie and I took it all in and said that once again. Thank you Eliza for letting us share in such a magical and meaningful evening! Cheers! Special thanks to Owen Kruse of for the beautiful watercolor Pappy drawing, Mary ODea of for the whimsical Old Fashioned infusions, for the perfect canvas of Cinnamon dupioni linens and, of course, to our EG Crew for shaking & stirring us with the best cocktail of flowers & design.

It’s starting to look like a store and feel like a home. And not without the best team in the business. Late nights with IPA designing and unpacking with Mary Beth. Michel making seeming endless round trips between Angus Drive & Gulf Court. And then today, Elizabeth, our resident totally rocked unpacking and staging the front of house!! I can’t thank her enough and it is beautiful. Last night is was wall-to-wall boxes and bins of ribbon, office supplies, toilet paper, design tools, Clorox and odds and ends. Mary Beth, Warren and I surrendered to the chaos around midnight last night. Elizabeth walked in this morning and I said, “Help!” She got to work and brought her fabulous styling eye to the task. By day’s end we were no longer terrified to have someone drop by, in fact we welcomed it (or at least in the front of house.) Elizabeth brings so much energy and spirit and style to her days at The EG. We cherish her and can’t wait to see her handiwork at play in our new digs. #27617

We are bit off our posting game. It's a super busy time around the EG as we begin our move to a new location. BUT we can't move on to posts about that or spring blooms until we share some additional Art in Bloom moments. I mean, it was too awesome to file away.

Our days at the shop are full of so many moments of serendipity and so many beautiful design surprises. I can think of few more wonderful than Avery participating in this year's Art in Bloom. When the application process opened a few months back, our team was super excited and almost everyone submitted an application. Since it is first come, first serve, we got four spots. Originally Annmarie was doing a pedestal but her plans changed closer to the date so Avery jumped in and took her spot. While we know Annmarie would have created a beautiful piece, we think it was truly serendipity that Avery got this pedestal. And the NCMA staff agrees as Avery’s striking interpretation received this year’s Director’s Choice Award.

With every project Avery undertakes at English Garden from managing our cooler to creating playful designs for our website, she crafts a meticulous plan. She’s part artist and architect. When she showed me her design sketches, I knew her piece was going to extraordinary. Her sketches alone are frame worthy.

About her interpretation of Sam Gilliam’s Last September IV, Avery shared, “Last September IV read to me as an explosion of color. With lovely contrast that shows the change in seasons. I chose not to interpret the piece but instead, transform it into a new “medium”. Lovely local and transported blooms helped tie my vision together.”

Avery, your EG family is beyond proud of you!! You have such a beautiful spirit and an amazing view of the world. We can’t wait to see where your design adventures take you!

We aren't quite ready to say goodbye to Art in Bloom yet. Sure the pedestals have been dismantled but we are still basking in the design fun we had at the shop over the past weeks as pieces came together. One of the most colorful designs from the EG crew was this fabulous collaboration from Mary Beth and Jenn. Mary Beth weaves wonderful stories in color and texture. I've told her before it is almost like she is quilting together a bouquet when she works her flower magic. Mary Beth has met her partner in design in Jenn. They'd worked together in the past as freelance designers and when Jenn joined our team this new year it was such a natural fit. Like she was always part of the family.

Mary Beth and Jenn joined forces to interpret Caribbean Days by Wosene Worke Kosrof. Their piece featured so many twists and turns and nooks and crannies of design goodness like the yarn wrapped protea and the woven, painted palm. It was a feast for the senses and an explosion of color that captured the energy of Wosene's piece. (He approved too as he and Mary Beth exchanged messages and he expressed his happiness that his piece was interpreted with such passion and vibrancy.).

About their collaboration, Mary Beth and Jenn shared: "A painting is done through layers and mixing of colors ....the theme of AIB is "Cinematic" so we built a box to represent the frame of painting as well as a box for viewing .. From all angles .. Our piece took this in consideration as we mixed bright and muted floral blooms to give the illusion of color and shapes and angles were achieved by deconstructions of stalks and manipulation of blooms."

Cannot thank you all enough for the beautiful arrangement you all created for my Dad's Service. I called somewhat last minute as we had no plans in order and with a quick phone call and a sketch you all were able to create the most amazing tribute for him.

The piece is now beautifully displayed on my dining room table for us to enjoy in the coming days.

I will turn to The English Garden for future floral needs and am excited to share our wonderful experience in working with you all with my friends and family!

Thank you again 💜💜
