I can’t tell you how much I hate the direction our world is heading, this “new normal” is not something I’m ready to willingly accept. I hate the lack of human interaction, especially for our kids. I’m worried about the damage that might be happening to our emotional well being + our microbiomes. I also have a strong concern about alternative agendas being sought out during a vulnerable time for this country (and world). And don’t even get me started on how I feel about the amount of screen time these kids are getting, because if you know me, you know I LOATHE screen time. BUT I’m continuing to tell myself that this is temporary (not our ‘new normal’) and that it is okay for now.🧘🏻♀️😌⠀

Grayson missed his group reading zoom call today because he wanted to spend time with Garrett + Reese and guess what, I allowed that to happen because I think building and maintaining relationships during this current life is super important.🧒🏼🧑🏼👧🏼💗⠀

Well, tonight he wanted to hear the missed chapters before bed, but they hadn’t been posted yet, I emailed his teacher and she promptly sent the video over. This little guy couldn’t have been happier to have this as his bedtime story tonight. Watching his face light up made all the other stuff not matter.🥰🌈🙏🏻🌎 ⠀

This week Maryland announced they wouldn’t be opening schools back up this year + even though we may have all seen it coming, it still felt like a punch in the gut.😪
Sure homeschool and distance learning is hard for us parents, but imagine how all these little people feel. The teachers are doing such a phenomenal job of continuing school for our kids and it breaks my heart a little to know they won’t all be together again as a class this year.💔
Grayson + I spent the afternoon dropping off flowers💐 + digital class picture illustrations for his teachers. This will be a school year they will all never forget.
Thank you to the amazing teachers at Green Acres School - you are going above + beyond to maintain some normalcy in our lives + making it easy for us parents.👩🏻🏫🙌🏼

You can feel thankful for your current situation, but also feel sad for your current situation.💞⠀

I feel grateful for the time we are able to spend at home together, bonding with eachother over silly games, family breakfasts, extra time playing outside + dance parties, but at the exact same time I miss my family + friends. I feel sad that Grayson is missing his “own” home and being with his grandparents that he’s lived with since birth.⠀

I think it’s okay to feel all the things.🤪⠀
It’s okay to feel happy for all the extra time with your kids, but to also feel exhausted and long for a break. It’s okay to feel blessed to be healthy and safe at home, but also miss being able to go places. It’s okay to feel happy + enjoy moments with your family, but also feel scared and unsure of what the future will look like. ⠀

I find myself drawing more and more rainbows daily with my crew. It brings me hope. 🙏🏻🌈❤️🌎

I miss photographing families + laughing children. Sometimes I find myself wondering if I’ll get the chance to do that again this year. And maybe, just maybe I’ll pick my camera up again during this social distancing chaos. For now, you’ll continue to get my best iPhone captures.

#LetsAllBeWell 🌈 You can feel grateful + happy for your current situation, while also feel sad for your current situation. I am so thankful for this time with eachother and that we are able to spend so much time bonding over silly things, playing fun games, having dance parties, sharing family meals, spending hours playing outside + watching new movies together, but I am sad that Grayson is missing our own home so much. #weareinthistogether

Another day, another rainbow.
I watched my child’s face light up today as he was able to watch his teacher sing a song for him virtually + my heart broke for him. I couldn’t let him see the tears building up as I thought to myself this isn’t how I pictured life for him.💔😥
I don’t think I’m the first to say it...
This isn’t the childhood we wanted for our children. They will never forget this moment in their lives. They will never forget the year they were abruptly pulled from school with no notice, when they weren’t allowed to have playdates anymore, when they couldn’t go to dance and baseball practice, when they had to wash their hands so frequently their fingers turned raw, when they were only allowed to hangout in their own homes and couldn’t go to playgrounds or birthday parties anymore. BUT I believe the good memories WILL outweigh the bad. They will also remember the time when Mommy + Daddy worked from home, the days that they played family games, sung silly songs, + did new projects with their family all day. They will remember the family workouts, sport games out back, family movies, walks, being able to eat every meal together and learning essential life skills (laundry, dishes, making beds,etc.). They will remember that their frontline Mom or Dad worked long hours being a “superhero” to save lives + help our world survive this crazy “germ”.💪🏼🦠
So let us take this time to reflect on how crazy + busy our lives became in this world and appreciate the extra hugs + tears from those that are most important to us. Don’t scream at your kids for not following a schedule and don’t kill yourself trying to teach them while worrying about them regressing academically. We are all in the same boat and we are all in this together. 💪🏼💫
Have hope + faith and please stay home.🏠❤️⛑🙏🏻🌎

I recently learned from a fellow photographer friend Helen Don Photography about this + I love it so much.❤️
There is a movement sweeping across Europe right now where families are painting rainbows along with the words “Let’s All Be Well” and displaying them in their windows as a message of hope. Our kiddos had fun today making rainbows using different materials. I encourage you to make rainbows with your family to hang in your own windows and share them using #LetsAllBeWell
